What draws you at this time to run for this position?

As a county supervisor each of us has different hats to wear. I am passionate about having Dist 16 financially represented in the counties funding of projects; funding of roads; completion of Hillview project; finding resolution for the unsheltered population; Lake Onalaska preservation; and support our officers and firefighters through these trying times. I sincerely feel the county needs to hear the voice of our district which I am proud to represent.

What resources would you like to see at the county level that would benefit your district?

Would like to see the city and county collaborate more to have better purchasing power for heavy equipment, computers, office supplies, etc.

What in your opinion are the top two issues facing La Crosse County?

This is a very complex question, there are so many issues to address. Roads, unsheltered, mental health, Hillview project and so many more.

How would you most effectively address the issues you identified in the previous question?

I will continue to be a strong advocate for our district.

What draws you at this time to run for this position?

I'm concerned by many of the problems facing people who want to live and work here in the county. Child-care costs are out of control and we're losing providers all across the county. People are finding it harder to find housing as the cost of rent continues to skyrocket. As a young person who wants to own a house and have a family, it just doesn't seem practical right now and I know many people my age feel the same way. I also see the homelessness situation here in the county as an epidemic and look forward to tackling it on the board. I beileve that the county also needs to provide mental health resources for our community members. Lastly, our board is full of people who have been there for over a decade and have nothing to show for it. I see this as a major issue, and I hope to instill a proactive mindset on the board. We need to be thinking about our future first and how we can best provide for our citizens.

What resources would you like to see at the county level that would benefit your district?

Child-care is the biggest concern for me. Numerous providers in Onalaska have closed in recent years and the cost of child-care is horrifying. We need more resources to support people who want to work in child care or own their own facility. I think as a county, we should provide child care at the facilities we manage for the benefit of those who work there, similar to what we are doing with the Hillview redevelopment. We must also work with our local health care instiutions and the sherrifs department to ensure that we are providing plentiful and equitable resources for those suffering from mental health issues. Lastly, making sure that those who wish to make environmentally sustainable improvements on their homes and businesses not only have the knowledge of how to do so, but the complete back of county utilities and resources.

What in your opinion are the top two issues facing La Crosse County?

Child Care, as I've mentioned before. It's becoming harder to find and harder to pay for. The other would be the homelessness crisis.

How would you most effectively address the issues you identified in the previous question?

I've already gone over the Child-care solutions. Making sure that we're providing resources for those who want to work and open their own facilities, using county resources to assist existing facilites, and making sure that county buildings are providing child-care to those who work for the county. Though Onalaska doesn't have much in terms of homeless individuals, the issue is of grave importance because it's not just rooted in lack of housing. Homelessness is just as much about mental health, jobs, and education as it is housing. With the proper mental health resources coupled with job programs and educational opportunities, we can tackle and finally solve this crisis.
