The County Board of Supervisors is the legislative body in every county in Wisconsin. The county board adopts an annual county budget, resolutions and local ordinances (laws). They also establish programs and public services for the county. Voters elect supervisors to represent their supervisory district for a two-year term in nonpartisan elections. There are no term limits.

What draws you at this time to run for this position?
I am a former high school vocational agriculture instructor and adult farmer technical school instructor. I am retired from a feed, seed, and farm supply business which I've owned and managed for 40 years. I've worked with town and village boards, city councils, county boards, school board, county fair boards and participated at hearings in Madison.
These experiences leave me highly qualified for this position.
The poor condition of our county roads, lack of rural broadband, and careless spending must be corrected.
We must support our police, EMTs, first responders, and firefighters.
What resources would you like to see at the county level that would benefit your district?
This is a threefold answer:
- Our rural roads need a long-range plan to bring our 109 miles of deteriorated roads to good condition.
- There needs to be a clear path developed to bring broadband to the entire county.
- We must show support for our EMTs, first responders, firefighters, and police.
What in your opinion are the top two issues facing La Crosse County?
The lack of sound business management over our $200 million budget and lack of long-term investment in rural roads and broadband.
The poor condition of our county roads, lack of rural broadband and careless spending must be corrected. We have 109 miles of county roads in need of paving. There are over 11 miles of unsafe wood post cable guards that were obsolete 40 years ago.
Lack of high-speed broadband throughout rural La Crosse County is a very serious hinderance to the education of our youth, farmers, rural business community, medical community, and more.
We must support our police, EMTs, first responders, and firefighters.
How would you most effectively address the issues you identified in the previous question?
Our board should refocus on the essential needs of all our 120,000 residents. Rural and city residents should benefit equally from our county services. Today our rural areas are not getting a fair share of the county resources.
Our spending needs better oversight. We must identify future consequences created by the new spending and debt.
Reducing unnecessary spending along with our continuing growth in sales tax revenue can allow us to free funds to accomplish long neglected needs.
Our $3 million annual payment on all highway debt will be increasing year to year until paid.

What draws you at this time to run for this position?
Government at every level is polarized. I served 20 years in the military, am a retired USAF Colonel. I know how to lead, but I also know how and when to be part of a team. My district has the largest land area and is among the most rural. I am drawn to represent rural life, while also understanding the challenges faced by the county. Public health and water quality issues are becoming more serious. County outreach and coordination county services can be improved. We have had too much city vs rural polarization and it's time to end that.
What resources would you like to see at the county level that would benefit your district?
Better coordination of emergency, police and fire services. More support for first responders. Roads always need improving.
What in your opinion are the top two issues facing La Crosse County?
Polarization in our politics is impeding everyone's ability get things done. Homelessness and related problems (drug addiction, disease, crime) are county wide problems, just more visible in the city.
How would you most effectively address the issues you identified in the previous question?
The County Board and City of La Crosse are partnering to attach these problems with a coordinated effort. In the military, I helped coordinate efforts among different military branches, despite competing agendas. I have experience working with different military branches, people in different cultures, from different countries and different faiths. I bring a medical background to these issues and also broad experience in leadership and ability to work with others.
