Description of office: The General Assembly is the legislative branch of government in Pennsylvania. It is composed of two houses: the Senate is the upper house, and the House of Representatives is the lower house. A majority vote in both houses is necessary to pass a law. The PA House of Representatives consists of 203 members representing one district each, with an equal number of constituents. Representatives must be at least 21 years old, have been a citizen and a resident of the state four years and a resident of their respective districts one year before their election, and shall reside in their respective districts during their terms of service. The House develops budget packages, makes taxation decisions, allocates spending, and passes laws (including redistricting in collaboration with the Senate). The House also has the exclusive authority to impeach public officials. Representatives also serve on various policy committees that may propose legislation. What do you see as the most pressing issues facing Pennsylvanians, and how would you address them?
The most pressing issues involving Pennsylvanians involve putting PEOPLE over politics. Legislators in the PA General Assembly should be concentrating on problem solving for the people of PA over pushing national "culture war" issues and off base conspiracy theories. These are serious times which require sober and serious thinking and acting in the interest of all people of the 199th District and Pennsylvania. Access to affordable, quality healthcare including mental health/addiction services; preservation of our farmlands, fields, and forests; a woman's right to her healthcare and reproductive freedom; and equal access to quality public education are some of the most urgent issues facing our 199th District and all of Pennsylvania.
What changes would you support making to Pennsylvania’s voting laws to expand access, ensure security, and support local election officials and processes?
Voting in a democracy is a sacred civil right and should always favor and enable greater participation. I am always in favor of any law that encourages more voter turnout, not less, and more access to participating in our election process. While we should continuously look for enhanced ways to secure the accuracy and integrity of our voter rolls, that enhanced security should never be used to disenfranchise Pennsylvania voters. I believe we should make it easier to participate in the election process, be it increased and easier mail in voting, more secured drop box locations, or public access/transportation to the polls. Expanded days to early vote would help to increase access for all citizens. The PA mail in ballot should be simplified.
What legislation would you support to comply with the Commonwealth Court's ruling that Pennsylvania’s school funding system is unconstitutional and must be reformed?
I support implementation of the Basic Education Funding Commission's recommendations to reform the way PA funds public education and to comply with the Constitutional mandate. I also support reforms to cyber school funding to strengthen accountability to taxpayers and enforce state education standards.
What changes, if any, would you support making to Pennsylvania’s abortion laws?
I oppose any laws, policies, or regulations, that limit safe and legal access to abortion. If anything, Pennsylvania should codify the right to choose in our Constitution
