What are your top priorities?
My top priorities are keeping the county safe and secure. Working with other first responders in the county. Working with other law enforcement agencies, both federal and state to share and gather information critical to keeping a safe county.
What is the biggest issue facing the sheriff’s department right now?
For awhile staffing was our biggest issue. There was a substantial decline in academy numbers after 2020. I think interest in the law enforcement profession has started to increase again.
What is your assessment of the department’s budget, and is there any room for improvement?
I feel that our budget allows us to do our jobs without many issues. There is always room for improvement. One way we improve our budget is by saving money on technology that we utilize.
How would you describe your leadership style, and how does that qualify you for the position of sheriff?
My leadership style is to lead from the front. I tell everyone that works for me that I will never ask you to do something that I wouldn’t do myself. After working in rural law enforcement for almost 22 years, you have to be willing to work nights, fill shifts and respond to calls like anyone else.
What would you do to maintain trust between law enforcement and county residents?
Trust is something that is earned. I hope that by providing the county a high level of service, they see the time and effort that goes into making our community safe.
