What are your top priorities?
My top priorities, as far as serving as Barnes County Auditor, would be honesty, integrity, and accuracy in maintaining county financial records and calculating property taxes.
What is your experience with preparing and overseeing budgets?
I served as Barnes County Auditor from December of 2012 to December of 2023, preparing and overseeing the entire budget process.
What leadership experience would you bring to this role?
As Barnes County Auditor, I managed the office, recruited and trained election workers, was President of the State Auditor's Association, and served on various committees. In my personal life, I serve on a number of boards and organizations in different capacities.
How would you manage the election process to ensure safe, fair, and accessible elections?
The election law and processes in North Dakota are very good, with many safeguards and controls built in. The Secretary of State's office provides training in election years, along with calendars, forms and checklists that the counties use to administer safe, fair and accessible elections. From ballot safeguards to applications, from secure and independent ballot-scanning machines to interactive databases, the entire process is designed to ensure that those who are eligible to vote, can do so.
Do you foresee a potential shortfall in the County's budget? If so, how would you address it?
Yes, I anticipate that there may be a budget shortfall. It is the County Auditor's job to keep a close eye on that and inform the Commission of budget status. Solutions are simple, but painful. Tightening belts, cutting programs or services, raising taxes, or cutting into reserves. Those decisions belong to the Commission, but the Auditor should be able to provide valuable input.

What is your experience with preparing and overseeing budgets?
I have been with Barnes County Since March 2021, started in payroll and became the Deputy Auditor in Nov 2023. Last year , was my first time being part of the budget process.
What leadership experience would you bring to this role?
I have many years of experience in leadership. I do have an associate degree in leadership and organizational skills. I have been on many committee's.
I have helped trained in the election workers.
How would you manage the election process to ensure safe, fair, and accessible elections?
North Dakota has a very good process and safeguards in line. Secretary of State does a great job on training. They have many training sessions, and weekly zoom meetings. They have step by step checklist, audits,and support staff. The machines that counts the ballots are tested and are secured . Need to make sure all election workers are trained, and they understand their duties. All this makes for a safe election.
Do you foresee a potential shortfall in the County's budget? If so, how would you address it?
Yes,I do foresee potential shortfall in the County budget. It is the County Auditor job to keep a close eye on the budget and let the commissioners and the deptment heads know of the status. Couple suggestions I have, stay on budget, don't over spend. Cut or reduce service or programs.
