TEEN MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS: What programs or policies, if any, do you propose or support to help our schools address the ongoing concerns around student mental health?

I just recently helped to pass a Mental Health training budget amendment and I also have led the charge on revitalizing our school based health clinics. Both initiatives will support in providing students and their families mental health resources when they need it most.

Led initiative for Equity Learning Hubs. I collaborated with the administration to design a program which supported some of the district's most vulnerable students at the height of the pandemic with in-person instructional support. The program passed unanimously and has supported over 1,300 students. In it's first year, 57% of participants having gains in Mathematics & 53% having gains in ELA . The program will now be expanded county-wide as a Saturday school in an effort to close gaps.

SCHOOL LEADERS: What strategies would you support to attract and retain effective teachers and administrators?

I have supported teacher retention initiatives and budget amendments that expand the school system's capacity for hiring qualified teachers. For example, an initiative to provide conditional teachers with more support. I have put forward budget amendments to lessen the administrative load on specifically our Special Education teachers so they can spend more time focusing on students. I also support the expansion of innovative instructional models such as PBL to provide teachers with autonomy.
