What is your position on the federal role in reproductive healthcare?

Pro-Life per Federal role; it’s up to STATES, IN has ruled and it is appropriate per IN Supreme Court. My grandfather served on the Indiana Supreme Court.

How should the federal government respond to environmental and climate issues?

Environmental and climate issues and the response by the federal government should be limited; climate change is not back by real science.

What ideas do you have to address crime and safety in our country?

Enough laws on the books they just need to be carried out by our law enforcement and we should back the blue the police ice. We must continue President Trump’s platform of building the wall and stay in Mexico policies

What are the most urgently needed reforms to our current immigration system?

Build the wall and update technology so the processing is more efficient

As a member of the US House of Representatives, what steps will you take to ensure you have an open line of communication between yourself and your constituents?

I have an open door policy and have always encourage people to call email and would always be available to the constituents. I formally served for the then Senator Dan Quayle’s Office and worked within the constituent services for the entire state of Indiana all 92 counties

What specific experiences and skills qualify you to be the 8th District Congressman?

As a junior in high school participated in a government people to people student ambassador program that visited communist, countries and other democracies and other parts of the world like East Germany Poland visited Auschwitz so my life experiences started at age 17 prior I served as a page in the Indiana Senate I have traveled the world and know that we live in the best country and those life experiences in a current passport that allows me to have the insight that the other candidates don’t have living, not only in Indiana, Texas, Florida, but roots in Indiana back to the early 1800s I’m a businessman all business no politics somebody that gets things done and keeps his promises

What is your position on the federal role in reproductive healthcare?

I fully believe that the right to an abortion should be protected and would vote to have Roe v Wade enshrined into law.

How should the federal government respond to environmental and climate issues?

I believe that the government should invest heavily into renewable energy and that we should work on being proactive instead of reactive on these issues. Crucially when it comes to the environment we need to make sure we are finding ways to use less energy, which means supporting projects that create more walkable/bikeable communities, expansive public transportation, and more sustainable products. This means regulating against planned obsolescence, against single use plastics, and promoting sustainability when it comes to things like clothes.

What ideas do you have to address crime and safety in our country?

One of the most important aspects of combating crime is combating poverty. We need to make sure we are providing people with the tools and resources they need in order to provide and good living for themselves instead of allowing so many to languish in conditions that turn them towards crime. We do this by investing heavily into education, making housing more affordable by cracking down on corporate investment into single family homes and multiple rental properties along with other measures, as well as raising the minimum wage with provisions that it automatically increase with inflation. We also need to address safety by implementing gun regulations similar to those seen in the UK.

What are the most urgently needed reforms to our current immigration system?

I believe that immigrants deserve a clearer path to citizenship in this country, and that the issues of drugs and crime that some people frame around the issue of immigration, are best dealt with through the same policies I mentioned above. We need to make sure that the immigrants who are the backbone of many industries in this country including agriculture, are being taken care of and protected, instead of demonized as to further exploit them and others in this country.

As a member of the US House of Representatives, what steps will you take to ensure you have an open line of communication between yourself and your constituents?

I will use all of the modern technology at my disposal to ensure clear and direct communication with my constituents. I believe that through this campaign I have shown the ability to speak directly and clearly on specific issues more than anyone else running, and that would continue while in office.

What specific experiences and skills qualify you to be the 8th District Congressman?

I have spent the majority of my life living in the 8th district and have spent my life as a member of the working class. I understand what everyday Hoosiers are going through, the challenges they face, because I am living those same challenges right alongside them. I know how to fight for the working man because I am the working man and I have the skills and the ability to clearly and effectively speak on those concerns, and the fortitude to stick by the ideals that will benefit all Americans and not just the wealthy few.

What is your position on the federal role in reproductive healthcare?

Reproductive healthcare should be recognized as a right of bodily autonomy under the Section 1 of 14th Amendment. I believe the Establishment Clause of the 1st Amendment is relevant in this issue as well. Freedom of choice regarding reproductive healthcare is the majority opinion of the American people and the federal government should reflect the majority view of the citizenry.

How should the federal government respond to environmental and climate issues?

This is the existential issue of our time and has been politicized for far too long. Climate change is anthropogenic, we are currently living with the results and are directly affected by them. Climate justice and social justice are interconnected issues and the federal government is the institution most suited to address them.

What ideas do you have to address crime and safety in our country?

The interrelated issues of social, educational and economic inequality are what drive crime and incarceration rates which make America first among industrialized nations in these areas. Early childhood education, universal childcare, real equity in public education, paying public educators a wage commensurate with similarly accredited professionals, a culture of service, easier access to post-secondary education would be the first ideas off the top of my head.

What are the most urgently needed reforms to our current immigration system?

The backlog of asylum applications must be mitigated by a dramatic increase in judges and staff to do so. I believe in a path to citizenship for DACA recipients and properly vetted asylum seekers and immigrants who want to work and contribute to our society and economy. I believe the exploitation of migrants and particularly child laborers are a “pull factor” because they are getting paid and employed illicitly. Businesses and corporations are complicit in violations of the laws and must be punished and fined accordingly.

As a member of the US House of Representatives, what steps will you take to ensure you have an open line of communication between yourself and your constituents?

By all means necessary: social media, town halls, speaking and listening engagements. I plan on being accessible and accountable as a public servant.

What specific experiences and skills qualify you to be the 8th District Congressman?

I’m new to politics but I’m not new to life. I have made it my responsibility as an adult to know the issues of the day and to be able to speak to them. This is how I express my patriotism. I have cultivated a lifelong interest in social issues and history. I earned my B.S. History degree (‘11) at the University of Southern Indiana and was a Teacher Candidate. I’m a family man, a businessman and a professional musician. As an artist I have interacted with all socioeconomic groups, milieus and peoples. I’ve been living in Southern Indiana for 25 years but have the world-view of a native New Yorker as I was born and bred in Manhattan and lived and worked there until I was 29 years old. I have a unique experience and perspective to share.

What is your position on the federal role in reproductive healthcare?

Personally If I were to father a child I would want to protect that unborn child at all costs. Not every woman has a guy like me by their side though. I’m also not a woman and I’m not going to pretend to know more about their bodies than they do so I also support reproductive rights. Now with that said I do believe there should be some restrictions while also leaving the door open for exceptions to those restrictions that should be between a patient and their healthcare provider. As a father of 3 I am blessed but if my wife was for example raped and got pregnant I don’t know how I’d feel. So Something else to go along with all this that I feel we need to look at is the adoption system in our country the process and why it is so expensive.

How should the federal government respond to environmental and climate issues?

I am an Eagle Scout. A steward to the environment. I personally feel the climate has changed to what it was when I was younger. It’s much more extreme (kind of like politics). We need to be more proactive in responding but there are a lot is skeptics out there when it comes to climate change so the federal government can unfortunately only do so much in responding to the environmental and climate issues. For now the best thing we should do is take what we can get as far as implementing green policies, renewables energy and innovative ways of recycling. While a lot of money is still to be made though on fossil fuels any changes are going to be incremental and we will have to respond to situations that arise due to climate issues accordingly.

What ideas do you have to address crime and safety in our country?

Great Question! I feel as a society we need to do a better job on teaching our children right from wrong and there needs to be more of a focus on behavior and accountability like following the rules and respect for others. Perhaps we could implement some of this in the educational curriculum. I strongly believe this is where we need to start as a preventative measure. Next we need to take a look at the crimes being committed and focus on the root cause of those crimes to determine what actions are needed. It’s kind of like when I use to work in a factory and a part would be returned from the customer with a defect. 9 times out of 10 it was operator error but that wasn’t an acceptable answer and has to come up with a more technical solution

What are the most urgently needed reforms to our current immigration system?

This is one area where I have to agree with the other side. It’s time to shut down the border until we get a handle on things. We should not allow people to be entering our country illegally first and foremost. I think there is a need for added barriers along the boarder and people should remain in Mexico until they have been legally declared to enter. We should also pressure Mexico to take more of an active role in helping prevent the caravans traveling up through their country to our border.

As a member of the US House of Representatives, what steps will you take to ensure you have an open line of communication between yourself and your constituents?

My door is always open! Call, text, email, social media, write a letter or just stop on by. One of the things though I would implement is an office website with a way of voting/polling where constituents could log in and give their input on how I should vote on an issue and regardless of my personal opinion or party affiliation whatever the results are that the people say is how I would vote. I would also make random phone calls or go knock on some people’s doors to people throughout the district to get their take on things. There’s always Walmart too as you’re standing in line waiting to check out. A good place for conversation with others. I don’t expect people to come to me. I’ll be the one coming to them.

What specific experiences and skills qualify you to be the 8th District Congressman?

I am the only democrat candidate born and raised here. I am the best chance democrat candidate that could win in the general election in a primarily red district. I am in the middle what I like to say the purple candidate. I have the common sense and tenacity to do what it takes. I also believe in accountability and doing the right thing. I’m a school bus driver where I am entrusted to get your children to and from school safely. I also get to see our neighborhoods and infrastructure needs throughout.
