County surveyors administer the county land survey records, re-establish, and maintain the official government survey monuments, and review property boundary surveys and subdivision plans. They are tasked with the job of finding section cornerstones and referencing them by measurements to nearby structures. They are a county’s technical authority on drainage. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are being used to present property lines, aerial photography, drains and watersheds. A large focus of what they do is meant to reduce flooding, while maintaining clean water in our lakes, rivers, streams, and wetlands.
