Why do you want to be a School Board Member, and what qualifications and experience make you the best candidate?

I’m running for school board because I’m passionate about education, invested in ensuring all the students in the Port Washington Saukville School District have access to an outstanding educational experience, and dedicated to serving my community. I am committed to making sure each student has the support, opportunity, and resources they need to excel. Students should be confident and well prepared as they leave PWSSD ready to pursue whatever comes next.

I have nearly 10 years of experience working in higher education, in roles that included teaching, mentoring, advising, and advocating for students. During my time in education, I worked tirelessly to ensure students had what they needed to be successful. I worked with a wide variety of professionals to gather information, develop policy, and anticipate future needs - all skills and experiences which I believe make me a great candidate for the PWSSD Board of Education.

What issues do you believe are the most pressing for the School Board to address in the next term?

I think the most pressing issues for the PWSSB, aside from the hiring and integration of the new superintendent, include a revised school safety plan and a strategy to address the facility needs in the district. Additionally, I think the board needs to expand proactive communication with the community to advocate for and celebrate all the wonderful things that the students and staff are doing in our schools.

How do you distinguish the role of a school board member from that of the administration, for example the superintendent and curriculum coordinator?

To me, the role of a school board member is to work with the board to establish and refine policies in the district to ensure alignment with the district's philosophies and goals. Ideally, school board members should collaborate when appropriate with the superintendent, director of curriculum, and other administrators to ask questions to better understand the potential impacts of decision made by the administrative team and ensure alignment across the district with the policies established by the board.
