Why do you want to be a School Board Member, and what qualifications and experience make you the best candidate?

I've decided to run for re-election because I enjoy being part of a great organization and helping our district continuously improve. I believe I've been an effective board member since 2017 because I care about the work of running our district and take my role seriously. During my time on the board we've seen the district portion of our communities tax bill drop to 30 year lows while the academic performance of the district has achieved never before seen heights.

What issues do you believe are the most pressing for the School Board to address in the next term?

Thanks to the turnaround in our enrollment since 2020, the most pressing need for the district is space. Hence the upcoming referendum that will be on the April ballot.

How do you distinguish the role of a school board member from that of the administration, for example the superintendent and curriculum coordinator?

The role of the board is to govern the district vs. that of administration, which is to manage the district. The board hires and manages the superintendent, it does not do his job.

Why do you want to be a School Board Member, and what qualifications and experience make you the best candidate?

I am running for reelection because Grafton has an exceptional school district and I want to continue collaborating with my fellow board members and administration to keep our district moving forward.

Additionally, my 15 years as a resident and parent in the Grafton School District, coupled with my experience as an educator, has given me a deep understanding of the diverse needs and perspectives in our community. I have also successfully served on the board for nearly three years. During my time, I have attended and been prepared for every meeting with an open mind to work together to accomplish goals and tackle issues that arise in our district. I am proud of what I have contributed during my time on the board as our district continues to see improved student achievement, low teacher turnover, and reduced mill rates.

What issues do you believe are the most pressing for the School Board to address in the next term?

The Grafton School District is experiencing growth in student enrollment that has exceeded our current building capacity at our elementary school buildings. We (the school board) have approved a referendum to be voted on that will allow us to expand JLMS and move fifth grade to the middle school. This move will allow us to free up much needed space at the elementary levels and provide a long term solution for our growth. Please visit the Grafton School District website for more detailed information on the referendum.

How do you distinguish the role of a school board member from that of the administration, for example the superintendent and curriculum coordinator?

The school board is responsible for policy making, ensuring responsible management of resources, and evaluating the superintendent. Administration is responsible for managing the day to day operations of the district in accordance with board policies.
