What should our state government do to support access to affordable housing?
Encourage the use of the funding approved in 2023 by small communities to install infrastructure in conjunction with a plan for a development. Using TIF's to lower the cost of homes is also helpful.
How do you view the initiative and referendum process in South Dakota? Are there any changes to this system that you would support?
I support giving voters a choice to challenge situations in SD. Unfortunately outside groups see South Dakota as a low cost state to test their plans. Then the South Dakota point of view has to be marketed against high dollar out of state supporters. Hopefully the South Dakota point of view can be promoted well enough for the right outcome.
How will you protect voting rights while maintaining the security and integrity of our elections?
Have already voted on voter security bills. SD has as secure process as any state. However, there is always risk of cheating. We must remain diligent on what is happening here.
What should our state government do to support access to affordable, quality childcare?
I believe there is a summer study this year to explore all options. I will attend on line work shops this summer to learn what other states are doing. Lack of childcare affects my business, I am paying attention.
What do you see as the most important challenges facing our state?
Property Taxes. As property values grow everywhere, we must come up with solutions. This dramatically effects seniors and others living in their lifelong homes. As values increase so do the taxes, and their stuck. I am on a summer study to study this and propose. possible changes
