What should our state government do to support access to affordable housing?
Introduce a bill to both build more housing as well as punishing companies that purposely price gouge the housing market. Bring back the starter home so we can open up rental properties to the incoming generation as well as making it easier for lower income people to get quality housing.
How do you view the initiative and referendum process in South Dakota? Are there any changes to this system that you would support?
Making it so petitions can be started earlier & the submitting deadline would be later on. Also making it so if one of these actually pass would be more binding to the legislators would be nice, since I know a fair lot people still mad about Constitutional Amendment A getting it's recreational portion screwed in the courts.
How will you protect voting rights while maintaining the security and integrity of our elections?
We need to making voting easier & more accessible to the populace, by allowing more voting places & even trying to make the day a national holiday. Claims of voting fraud & irregularity are over hyped with having little to none actual tangible impact to the outcome of elections. Though incorporating new methods & keeping up with technology would help at least easy worry.
What should our state government do to support access to affordable, quality childcare?
Make it easier for more places to be established (via grants or funds). If we truly want to get wild with it we could even subsidize a small portion of the wage for these workers, so that we could incentivize people moving into this field (or people already in this field to move here from other states).
What do you see as the most important challenges facing our state?
The growing cost of living. A lot of other issues branch out from this being a problem. In fact I am of the mind that a lot of issues outsides of economics can be helped with a better standard of living via the people having more money to spend & less debts to pay.
