Professional Experience I have served for 15 years in the Office of the El Paso County Attorney. I have provided steadfast counsel in many areas that the County Attorney practices, including juvenile prosecution, civil litigation defense, and general counsel. Some of my most notable work includes working to provide water and wastewater services in the colonias of East El Paso, providing legal counsel to the County and Elections Department during the COVID-19 pandemic, and advising County officials on migration matters. In my current role, and under the direction of the Honorable Jo Anne Bernal, I serve as the primary legal advisor to the El Paso County Commissioners Court.
Community Involvement I currently serve on the board of Project Bravo where I also serve on their executive committee. I am a member of the El Paso Bar Association and El Paso Women's Bar Association where I served as president from 2019-2020. I also serve as a member of the Executive Women's Lions Club. I also serve as the elected District #4 Trustee for the El Paso Community College.

What training, experience and characteristics qualify you for this position?

I have over 15 years of experience serving in the County Attorney's Office and have served in almost every unit of the office. I have handled complex civil legal matters on behalf of the County as well serving as a juvenile prosecutor and litigator.

How do you balance crime victims' rights with your ethical duty as a prosecutor?

A prosecutor's role is to ensure that justice is done. This does not mean conviction at all costs. Balancing offender accountability, keeping the community safe, and ensuring the opportunity to rehabilitate is key. I would do this by ensuring staff and lawyers receive empathy training and understand the role that each criminal justice stakeholder plays in the process.
