What are the top three legislative priorities you believe the Indiana General Assembly should address in the upcoming session?
1. Supporting public education
2. Protecting property tax payers
3. Lowering college tuition
What do you see as the unique opportunities and challenges facing Marion County and how will you work to address them? How will those efforts impact the broader Central Indiana region and/or the rest of the state?
We have a great opportunities to provide more affordable, housing and enhanced public safety. I will work diligently to convince legislators from outside Indianapolis to let our city run its own affairs. If we can get this done, we will benefit the entire region as we already do in so many ways.
What should the state government do to provide an equitable, quality education for all children pre-K through grade 12?
First, we need to recruit and retain excellent teachers. Second, we need to stop forcing a conservative, social agenda onto our school libraries.
We also need to settle on a rational set of competency exams. Critically, we need to at least double the number of counselors.
What measures would you propose to increase voter engagement and access in our state?
We need to stop making it hard to vote. Mail ballots are in order.
I believe environmental legislation in response to climate change is necessary.
