Personal Biography Jen Hill has served as a Roeland Park City Councilmember for Ward 2 for the past eight years. A veteran educator with 31 years of experience, she works as a high school instructional coach, supporting teachers and students. As the mother of two high school–aged boys, Jen stays closely connected to the needs of families in her community. She is passionate about creating an equitable world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, bringing that commitment to both education and public service.

What do you believe are the three critical projects or initiatives that will move your city/district forward?

Prioritize Families & Welcome All – Build a community where every resident feels included, supported, and valued.

Invest in Infrastructure & Grow Business – Maintain and improve streets, parks, and public spaces while strengthening our business district to boost local jobs and services.

Keep Taxes Feasible – Ensure responsible budgeting that keeps taxes at a sustainable rate while protecting the quality of city services.

What skills, expertise, experience, or competencies qualify you for this position?

With 31 years of experience as an educator and high school instructional coach, I bring strong skills in collaboration, problem-solving, and building consensus. For the past eight years, I have served as a Roeland Park City Councilmember, where I’ve worked to balance budgets, lower the mill, support infrastructure improvements, and strengthen community engagement and the sense of belonging. As both a public servant and a parent of two high school boys, I understand the importance of creating a city that is fiscally responsible, family-focused, and welcoming to all.

What makes this office an important part of the local government?

The City Council is the voice of the community, ensuring that residents’ needs and priorities are represented in every decision. Councilmembers shape policies that impact daily life—such as infrastructure, taxes, public safety, and community programs—while also planning for long-term growth and sustainability. This office is important because it provides direct, accessible leadership that keeps local government responsive, transparent, and accountable to the people it serves.
