What do you believe are the three critical projects or initiatives that will move your city/district forward?

Housing Accessibility: Make housing a human right and not just something decided by the market. This can involve rent control, stopping the expansion of 'McMansions' here in Fairway or creating assistance programs for residents.

Income Inequality: Addressing the income gap within the city by shortening it will help make Fairway a community where there is less division. This could take the form of a trigger law to increase minimum wage.

Greater Community Participation: We need to create more opportunities for residents to connect with their neighbors & shape the future of Fairway. That means holding more accessible public forums, supporting local events, and including underrepresented voices in city decisions to strengthen community bonds.

What skills, expertise, experience, or competencies qualify you for this position?

I bring leadership experience as President of the Graduate Student Council at UMKC, where I’ve advocated for student needs, managed funding, and worked to improve university policy. I hold a Master’s degree and will complete my Ph.D. in Mathematics and Informatics this December. My academic background has sharpened my analytical thinking and data-driven decision-making — skills I’m eager to apply in local government. I’ve also partnered with community organizations on housing, mental health, and civic engagement, and I’m committed to building a more inclusive, responsive city.

What makes this office an important part of the local government?

This office is important because it can be used to help Fairway move away from a system built around wealth and privilege. Right now, many city policies reflect and reinforce a class structure that benefits the few while leaving others out. City Council can challenge that by pushing for real change — making housing a human right, showing the state that citizens want higher wages for all, and creating a space where we value the human being rather than the amount in a person's bank account. It’s a chance to make Fairway more fair, more connected & more inclusive for everyone who lives here. If we don't use an office like City Council to change the underlying structure of the city we’ll see Fairway turn into a gated community without the gate!

What do you believe are the three critical projects or initiatives that will move your city/district forward?

Fiscal responsibility will balancing the need for meaningful and innovative parks and recreation programs, exploring options for a new police department facility and prioritizing capital improvements.

What skills, expertise, experience, or competencies qualify you for this position?

I have great appreciation for the opportunity to listen to priorities of residents in Ward 4 and learn from our expert program directors while serving on council the past 12 years. I think my experience with program budgeting in the government sector and public policy development supports me to represent Ward 4 well.

What makes this office an important part of the local government?

Meaningful, quality and efficient services and supports from the city are key to our residents wellbeing and safety. City council representatives assure the voice and interest of their ward shine through on a variety of policy, operational and new development recommendations and decisions. Some decisions or matters may be or seem routine such as capacity for snow removal or street maintenance and some may be more complex such as zoning or development opportunities for the city. Without the council member listening, learning and voting on matters, residents in a ward don't have a voice in pathways or direction for city operations and improvements.
