What would be your top three priorities if elected?

My priorities are to champion workforce and community needs while maintaining access, opportunity, and affordability.

ACCESS: I will work collaboratively to innovate and ensure students in our region continue to have access to this invaluable resource.

OPPORTUNITY: I will ensure that the education provided is relevant and anchored to what our communities need now. I believe that JCCC could be at the heart of advancing real-world learning opportunities, partnerships with businesses, and new collaborations that support capacity building for our region.

AFFORDABILITY: I will do so in a way that retains the affordability of this resource for both the students and taxpayers.

What skills, expertise, or competencies qualify you for this position?

I am currently serving as a Vice Provost at the nation’s 4th largest medical school. I bring more been 25-years of military experience and nearly two decades of leadership experience working in some of the largest organizations here in KC. I have had the privilege of leading programs and people on multiple different continents and in multiple different settings. I believe the faculty, staff and the community will benefit by pairing my industry, leadership and operational knowledge with others more experienced in higher ed. Together, that collaboration will result in more innovative solutions to the issues facing higher ed today.

I am most passionate about addressing the non-academic barriers that face today’s college student. Chief among those barriers for today’s college student is the lack of genuine connections. For the last four years, I have focused on nothing but building supportive relationships, inside and outside the classroom, and meaningful learning experiences.

How would you suggest the college address diversity issues for the most favorable outcomes?

Community means everyone and what an amazing resource we have here in our community in JCCC. I am one of approx. 1,000 doctoral-prepared black male nurses nationwide. Belonging means a lot to me. I'm quite confident in my experience in this area but I want to say the most important thing beyond my experience is making sure we start with understanding the needs of our community. From there, adhering to our values would mean that we are intentional about promoting a sentiment of belonging. This is a core component of the programming I have created in my current role. I look forward to providing an example to others of what is possible and assist them in achieving their professional goals anyway I can.

How would you suggest the college address diversity issues for the most favorable outcomes?

In my opinion, community colleges are the true embodiment of diversity. At JCCC, we see nontraditional students, single parents, working adults, international students, individuals from a wide range of socioeconomic and racial backgrounds, high-achieving scholars, and students with learning differences — all learning side-by-side. They choose JCCC because they know a path to their future exists.

To achieve the best outcomes, we must build on this strength — creating a welcoming environment, listening to student voices, removing barriers, and ensuring strong support systems. Diversity isn’t just a statement on paper; it’s our campus reality and one of our greatest rewards.
