Personal Biography
After college, I served in the Navy (on submarines), then got out and entered seminary. I served mostly rural churches for 35 years, as well as a Navy Reserve Chaplain. When I retired, I moved to El Dorado to be close to our daughter with special needs. In retirement, I've written some books, been active in my church, Kiwanis, and for the first time got involved in politics. I have 4 children, 10 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

What makes you the best candidate for this position? What skills, expertise, or competencies qualify you?
• I am committed to making Butler County a safe and welcoming community where everyone is supported, cared for, and respected.
• My career as a pastor has taught me how to help people with differences of opinion work towards common goals.
• My time in the Navy, especially as a submarine sailor, taught me that every person has gifts to offer and can be seen as a vital member of the community.
• As the parent of a child with special needs, I am committed to fully funding education, including special education, music, and life skills.
• After living in small towns for most of his adult life, I also know the crucial need for affordable and accessible health care, including thriving hospitals.
What are Kansas's three most important issues, and how do you intend to address them?
Tax Reform. I think we need to shift some of the revenue from property taxes to income taxes, and add a third tier of tax rates.
Health Care. We need to pass Medicaid Expansion to protect Kansans and their hospitals.
Education. Special Ed needs to be fully funded.
How would you make it easier for Kansas citizens to follow bills as they flow through the legislature? What, if any, changes would you propose in the “Gut and Go” process?
The first step is to slow the process down. Not only do citizens deserve a chance to read the bills before they go to a vote, so do the legislators!

I think the voting system works fine. If anything we need to reduce the vitriol and support the poll workers who are doing a great job!
