Personal Biography
Kylie is a Dickinson County native, born and raised in Herington. She is a teacher for students who are blind, serving kids with visual impairments throughout Kansas. Kylie knows first-hand what it means to be part of the working and middle class, and her campaign priority is to bring the voice of rural Kansans to Topeka, where policies often leave us behind. She currently lives in rural Abilene with her husband, children, and backyard chickens.

What makes you the best candidate for this position? What skills, expertise, or competencies qualify you?
As a working mom, I am living in the trenches of how policy impacts working families. For too long, we've been represented by people who are generations removed from problems facing today's working families. I was born and raised in this district, but I've had opportunities to travel the world and have incredible experiences to shape my belief system. As a public school teacher, parent of kids in daycare, school board member, and wife of a veteran / law enforcement officer, I have the knowledge and experience to advocate for rural, working class Kansans.
What are Kansas's three most important issues, and how do you intend to address them?
1. Education Funding - With the school funding formula due to be written, Kansas needs representatives who prioritize fully funding education, including special education.
2. Property Tax Relief - Middle income and working families are constrained by high property tax, mostly coming due to the local government and school districts as programs are cut at the state and federal level. I would prioritize funding education and infrastructure programs at the state level to give local governments relief for their tax base.
3. Rural Healthcare - with the closure of rural hospitals, now, more than ever, we need to expand Medicaid.
How would you make it easier for Kansas citizens to follow bills as they flow through the legislature? What, if any, changes would you propose in the “Gut and Go” process?
Yes, the current system is so fast-paced and disorganized that even the most plugged in constituents find it difficult to follow along. The website needs cleaned up with more streamlined access and simplified language. Gut and Go bills should not be allowed, and all bills should have ample time for public input.
Would you support changes to Kansas election laws and voting systems? Why?
I support changes to election laws that give the mail-in grace period back to voters.
