About Mike Stieben: Mike Stieben and his wife, Susan, live near Tonganoxie. He is the father of four children and has served on the Genesis Christian School Board of Trustees as well as Sherman Township Clerk. For 30 years, Mike has worked as a union locomotive engineer for BNSF Railway. He has also served as Chairman of Rural Water District #13 and was elected in 2019 as the 5th District Leavenworth County Commissioner.

What makes you the best candidate for this position? What skills, expertise, or competencies qualify you?
I have served as Leavenworth County Commissioner since 2019. My local government experience gives me a different perspective, I understand issues like unfunded mandates, revenue neutral budgets, and transportation grants with matching funds. I believe my experience will help when we work on implementing a cap on property taxes, freezing property taxes for those over 65, and ending the massive government incentive and giveaway programs for data centers, RHID’s, stadium deals, and battery plants. We must get back to limited government, not crony capitalism with the government picking winners and losers, while our working citizens lose ground.
What are Kansas's three most important issues, and how do you intend to address them?
Property Taxes, reform of government incentives and taxation, education reform.
How would you make it easier for Kansas citizens to follow bills as they flow through the legislature? What, if any, changes would you propose in the “Gut and Go” process?
I would like to see an end to the process of bundling bills together and limit gut and go procedures.
Would you support changes to Kansas election laws and voting systems? Why?
I support our current election laws, if there are additional proposals to make our elections secure I would consider those proposals, I want all of our citizens to be able to vote.
