Personal Biography
I am a lifelong Wichitan, father, foster parent, mentor, coach, and candidate for Kansas State Representative in District 89. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and have served my community as a paraeducator, working directly with students and families. My experiences in education, foster care, and community service have shaped my commitment to advocating for strong schools, safer neighborhoods, and opportunities for working families. I believe leadership starts and ends with showing up.
Community/Public Service
Community service and public service have been at the heart of my life since I was 15 years old, when my siblings and I founded Get A Clue Ministries, a nonprofit dedicated to serving families in need, supporting inner-city youth, helping cover summer camp expenses, and organizing community events and youth programs. To this day, we continue to give back and invest in our community. My passion for serving others led me to earn a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and dedicate my career to working with young people and families. I have served as a counselor and Program Director at Kids Across America in Golden, Missouri, a paraeducator, coach, mentor, and foster placement home provider. I was honored to receive the Good Apple Award, an award voted on by my peers in recognition of my commitment to students and education. What makes you the best candidate for this position? What skills, expertise, or competencies qualify you?
What makes me the best candidate for District 89 is that I genuinely care about people and have spent my life building relationships throughout our community. I believe elected officials should be visible, accessible, and accountable to the people they represent, not just during election season, but every day they're in office.
I bring a unique combination of lived experience, professional experience, and community involvement. I've worked with children, families, educators, and community leaders from all walks of life, which has given me the ability to listen to different perspectives and find common ground. I know how to work with people, solve problems, and advocate for those whose voices often go unheard.
What are Kansas's three most important issues, and how do you intend to address them?
I believe the three most important issues facing Kansas are public education, Medicaid expansion, and protecting women's rights.
Public education is personal to me. I attended public schools, have four children in public schools, and have served as a paraeducator, substitute teacher, and coach. I understand the importance of fully funding our schools and ensuring students and educators have the resources they need to succeed.
I also support Medicaid expansion. Living with a rare muscle disease has shown me how critical access to affordable healthcare can be. Expanding Medicaid would help working families, improve health outcomes, and support rural hospitals across Kansas.
Finally, I will continue fighting to protect women's rights.
How would you make it easier for Kansas citizens to follow bills as they flow through the legislature? What, if any, changes would you propose in the “Gut and Go” process?
Government works best when people know what's going on. I believe Kansans should have more time to review bills before they're voted on, especially when major changes are made through the "Gut and Go" process.
As a legislator, I will do my part by communicating directly with my constituents, both in person and online, to explain legislation, answer questions, and keep people informed about what's happening in Topeka. Transparency and accessibility shouldn't be optional.
Would you support changes to Kansas election laws and voting systems? Why?
I believe election laws should be reviewed periodically to ensure they remain effective, transparent, and accessible. Any proposed changes should be evaluated based on evidence and input from voters, election officials, and community stakeholders. My priority would be maintaining public confidence in the electoral process while expanding participation for eligible voters, reducing barriers to registration and voting, increasing access to early and mail-in voting, and ensuring election procedures are equitable across communities
