What makes you the best candidate for this position? What skills, expertise, or competencies qualify you?
As a former educator and counselor, I have built strong connections with people from all walks of life and understand the concerns of everyday Kansans. I believe in listening first and working together to find practical solutions. As your representative, I will be someone my constituents can turn to when they need their voices heard.
I am not a career politician, nor do I come from wealth or privilege. I was raised by a single mother of four in rural Kansas, where I learned the values of hard work, perseverance, and personal responsibility. Those lessons shaped who I am today and taught me that determination and integrity can take a person far in Kansas.
I will bring those same values to Topeka.
What are Kansas's three most important issues, and how do you intend to address them?
1. Property Taxes and Cost of Living:Too many Kansans are being forced to choose between paying their bills and putting food on the table. We must address the rising cost of living and the burden that property taxes place on homeowners, retirees, and working families. We can find the right balance. 2. Education:
As a former educator, I know that strong public schools are essential to strong communities. We must fully fund special education so that general education funding can be used to meet the needs of all students. 3. Healthcare: We must work toward practical solutions that improve access, reduce costs, and strengthen a failing Health Care System.
How would you make it easier for Kansas citizens to follow bills as they flow through the legislature? What, if any, changes would you propose in the “Gut and Go” process?
The lack of transparency in our Legislature is a major concern. In today's world, we have the technology to make government more accessible and accountable to the people. For example, Kansas could easily create a searchable database that allows citizens to find legislation by keywords, topics, or issues that matter to them.
When government operates without sufficient transparency, voters can feel disconnected from the decisions that affect their daily lives. True representation requires openness, accountability, and meaningful public access to information.
The solution is not complicated. It requires a commitment from Kansas legislators to embrace transparency, welcome public scrutiny, and make government more responsive to our citzens.
Would you support changes to Kansas election laws and voting systems? Why?
Kansas election laws have served our state well for many years. I have worked as a poll worker in Sedgwick County on numerous occasions, and I have been impressed by the diligence, professionalism, and care taken to ensure the integrity and security of our elections.
At the same time, I believe there is always room for improvement. Concerns about redistricting, changes in polling locations, and reductions in the number of polling sites can create confusion and make voting less convenient for some citizens. Every eligible voter should have a fair opportunity to participate in the democratic process, and election policies should promote both security and accessibility.
