What do you see as the most pressing needs for infrastructure or capital projects in the county? How should they be paid for?
As we continue to work through our updated strategic plan, needs for a Judicial Center, modernization of the Health Department and work on fairgrounds will be all be in the forefront. These will be large scale projects that will mostly likely need bonding for and thus a vote of the public. Looking for outside funding (Federal, State) and other means will be necessary as well
What policy changes or investments are necessary to encourage broader employment?
Working with both private and public entities on the needs infrastructurally for new business that will broaden and bring in the need for a new and expaned workforce, as well working with the current business community locally to help solve some of the challenges and issues they face to develop the best structure possible in the working environment
What element of the county’s government is most effective, and why?
Having a series of checks and balances with the other elected offices ie Clerk, Treasurer, County Attorney and Register of Deeds who like the Commissioners are elected by the will of the people to work on the many and important functions of the county including elections, collecting and processing taxes, assesments, Judicial priorities and functions, and the processing of important land and property Deeds to name a few
