Paul Simoneau is a lifelong Kansan rooted in the values that define Northwest Kansas, Husband to Michelle & Father to 3 boys Alex, Dane and Mason. Graduate of Fort Hays State University. Paul has spent the last 38 years, Contracting, Trucking & Teaching.

What makes you the best candidate for this position? What skills, expertise, or competencies qualify you?
I've spent 32 years in western Kansas doing the work — construction, hauling freight over the road for FedEx through I-70 winters, running equipment for KDOT, and now training the next generation of CDL drivers. I've met payroll, managed budgets, and made decisions where the outcome actually mattered. That's different from a career built around holding office. I bring accountability and results, not talking points — and I'll vote the way I ran a business: watch the money, keep commitments, and answer to the people I work for.
What are Kansas's three most important issues, and how do you intend to address them?
Property taxes — Kansans are getting taxed out of homes they already paid for. I'll push real relief, not the token gestures we've seen — pointing to votes like SCR 1616 that failed to deliver.
Government spending and accountability — Limited, transparent government that lives within its means, same as any family or small business has to.
Workforce shortage — Especially in trucking and skilled trades. I see this firsthand every day training CDL students; we need policy that supports technical education and keeps young people working here in western Kansas instead of leaving.
How would you make it easier for Kansas citizens to follow bills as they flow through the legislature? What, if any, changes would you propose in the “Gut and Go” process?
Kansans shouldn't need a lawyer or a lobbyist to know what their legislature is doing. I'd support requiring real notice and a waiting period before a bill can be gutted and replaced with unrelated content, plus plain-language summaries posted before votes. "Gut and Go" lets leadership swap out a bill's content late in session with little public notice — that's how bad policy sneaks through. I'd want a rule requiring any substantially rewritten bill to go back through committee, not straight to a floor vote.
Would you support changes to Kansas election laws and voting systems? Why?
I'd want to know more specifics before committing to any one bill, but generally I support measures that make elections more secure and transparent — clear ID requirements, accurate rolls, and results Kansans can trust — while keeping voting accessible for eligible Kansans. Trust in the process matters as much as the outcome.
