What makes you the best candidate for this position? What skills, expertise, or competencies qualify you?
I believe my background makes me the best candidate for this office. 17 years as a Lawrence City Commissioner, 7 years as a Douglas County Commissioner and 8 years as Representative of the 45th district. My business ownership has given me a broader background on which to draw upon when we hear laws affecting small business and Kansan's everyday life.
What are Kansas's three most important issues, and how do you intend to address them?
1) High Property Taxes
2) K thru 12 funding formula, including special education funding
3) Continued work on state water issues
We have to break the supermajority in the Kansas House so that one party does not dominate all decisions. A more evenly divided House will lead to better discussion and laws.
How would you make it easier for Kansas citizens to follow bills as they flow through the legislature? What, if any, changes would you propose in the “Gut and Go” process?
Social media could be used more effectively to promote the Kansas State Legislature website (kslegislature.gov) which has historic and current information on legislation. Constituents can use the website to contact their legislators.II
The 'Gut and Go' can be used effectively, as shown by the passage in the House of Medicaid expansion.
Would you support changes to Kansas election laws and voting systems? Why?
I was not supportive of the 2026 legislative voting rights session, which I believe makes it harder for citizens vote to count. I would rescind those changes.
