What is your definition of a good public servant?

A good public servant strives to assist citizens ethically and impartially with honesty and compassion.

What qualities and/or experience do you have that make you the best candidate for this office?

Having worked nearly 20 years for Vigo County, including the last six years as Chief Deputy Treasurer and for the Indiana State Board of Accounts, I possess a significant amount of experience from which I have gained valuable knowledge. Additionally, I have a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Indiana State University. Therefore, with my experience, knowledge and education, I am the best candidate for Vigo County Treasurer.

What do you feel is the greatest challenge facing the scope and duties of this office and how would you address this challenge?

The greatest challenge facing the scope and duties of the Treasurer’s office would be making the best investment decisions for the county. To address this challenge, I would use all resources available at the local and state level to determine the most lucrative and safest option.

What changes, if any, will you make in the operation of this office? Will you make any changes in personnel?

I would consider making changes to the current property tax payment system by evaluating all options to determine what is best for property owners to make online/phone payments. Key factors to consider are low bank convenience fees and user friendliness. Regarding personnel, I would not make any immediate changes.

What is your definition of a good public servant?

A desire to help others, and an openness to learn.

What qualities and/or experience do you have that make you the best candidate for this office?

I direct day-to-day operations, including sales handling, invoicing, inventory, and accounting. Leadership responsibility for and training 19 member staff. Provided superior customer service; developed long-term customer relationships. Maintain full compliance with industry regulations and ensure safe, efficient operations.

What do you feel is the greatest challenge facing the scope and duties of this office and how would you address this challenge?

My challenges would be, I would be building a new set of skills. Being the Treasurer, there should always be an openness to learn new material. And a learning curve to digest the material as well. The Dept. of Local Government Finance dictates theses practices that are in the treasurers office, and they have training for newly elected officials, with ongoing training.

What changes, if any, will you make in the operation of this office? Will you make any changes in personnel?

I would want my staff to treat people with respect, and let the residents of Vigo County know we care about them. I understand were not going to know all the answers all the time, but maybe we can point people in the right direction. I would not make any changes immediately. I will need to rely on the team that's in place.

What is your definition of a good public servant?

A dedicated individual that will take the best interest of the public it serves.

What qualities and/or experience do you have that make you the best candidate for this office?

My experience in the financial service industry of 32 years in banking, branch manager, has provided me with the knowledge needed to serve as Vigo County Treasurer. I'm seeking re-election of this office and have 4 years of experience in managing the Treasurer's Office. Our office had a record year in interest income on investments for 2023.

What do you feel is the greatest challenge facing the scope and duties of this office and how would you address this challenge?

We have approximately 70,000 parcels, in which we mail out about 50,000 mailings by early April with the due date of May 10th. The window we have to collect and process payments in the Spring creates a very tight schedule. I'm currently exploring other options to facilitate a more spread-out delivery of tax statements. I have also implemented a new platform in 2023 which offers many payment options to the taxpayer by paying online with Invoice Cloud. I'm focused on the taxpayer's best interest in facilitating simple, easy payment options.

What changes, if any, will you make in the operation of this office? Will you make any changes in personnel?

In exploring the spread-out delivery of tax statements, the office will experience a more manageable workload. Currently its extremely busy Spring & Fall tax collection. We have down time in between tax collection, with the change the staff will remain busy throughout the year. No change to personnel at this time.
