1. Why are you running for office and what qualities, training, experience and skills do you bring to this position?

Miami Beach is one of the most special and unique places in the world, and I am running for a commission seat because I want it to stay that way. The issues affecting us are ones we’ve never faced before: sea level rise, environmental deterioration, overdevelopment, runaway crime, Ocean Drive issues, and a tourism intrusion lobby that is calling the shots.

I say, “Enough is enough!” We need to elect leaders who will hold the city manager accountable for our inability to clean up ten blocks (5th to 15th Street on Ocean, Collins and Washington), a dysfunctional building department, legal opinions circumventing the Miami Beach Charter, weak reaction to environmental deterioration, and selling off public land without a voter referendum.

There is no one on the commission who is a PhD, a single working mother, a college professor, a former commissioner with legislative experience, and a realtor with a resident-friendly voting record like mine. I can hit the ground running.

2. What are the 3 most important issues facing your municipality? For each concern, how do you propose to mitigate/improve/resolve the issue?

Sea Level Rise - Mitigate flooding responsibly without harming property values. We must gather more research, seek out state and federal funding, and approach this without rushing, as we don't have the money to continue failing at projects.

Water Quality - Install corresponding injection wells to all current pump stations, follow up with county mandate to redirect sewage from Virginia Key underground or a location inland. Prepare for sargassum and follow up with county and state to make sure proper permits are issued for seaweed removal, and that the funding is in place to do so. Clean up Biscayne Bay.

Overdevelopment - Miami Beach is overbuilding, overdeveloping, and over the past six years we have sold off many of our development rights and municipal assets. We must follow our city charter, make sure municipal property sales go to a referendum vote, and stop increasing density when there is no corresponding traffic or infrastructure in place.
