1. What qualifications and experience do you bring to this office?

My experience includes over twenty-five years in corporate America as a corporate executive balancing budgets, negotiating new and existing contracts, procurement specialist. Even more, I am a Grant writer, community activist, with a Masters in Divinity (slated to graduate with a Doctorate with a focus on Ecology).

2. What do you see as the top two issues facing this office and how do you plan to address these issues?

Eco-apartheid is the greatest social, political and Environmental justice issue we face today. As Mayor, I will have actions brought in Environmental Court against Banks, lenders, investors and absentee owners of property who are simply stockpiling vacant properties and have made a conscious choice not to prepare property for resale or even maintain it; are creating and perpetuating a public nuisance and require them to bring the property into compliance with applicable housing code. Our administration will introduce affordable renewable energy, including a combination of solar wind and hydrogen energy to low income residents, putting an end to senior citizens being forced to balance the high cost of prescription drugs with paying their light bill, that will cost less and put and end to polluting the air and water while reducing our carbon footprint on the world, creating fewer emissions.

3. How do you plan to involve citizens in the decision making process of this office?

I will be supporting a citywide information dissemination and data collection campaign, that will solicit and embody the voices of the citizens of Memphis in the decision making process keep close communication with the concerns and issues facing each unique community while employing hundreds of residents of Memphis. I will additionally hold public forums with such innovative and creative actions such as a no-weekly "Walk With The Mayor. I will have a more direct interaction and form close relationships with non-profit organizations, Community Development Corporations, and Grassroots organizations to obtain their input and recommendations surrounding the issues facing that particular community.

1. What qualifications and experience do you bring to this office?

I am an educator, advocate, organizer, leader, listener, and elected official. My life’s work and passion is people: ensuring they’re represented, heard, valued, and included. In each of the roles I’ve held, I’ve built coalitions from across communities to challenge systems, propose solutions, and strengthen the bonds between neighbors. No other candidate can claim to have the same grassroots origin, the same courage to speak truth to power, and the same style of leading in coalitions to drive toward solutions.

2. What do you see as the top two issues facing this office and how do you plan to address these issues?

We can’t wait for a new approach to ensuring community members have jobs that pay a living wage, our youth have the opportunities and education that match their boundless potential, and for our communities to be safe without criminalizing poverty and race.

As mayor, I would focus on growing the number of small local businesses and reforming our tax incentive programs to make them work for the people, not just the corporations that benefit.

My education priorities center on creating a competitive fund that would support the reimagination of our classrooms for the 21st century, end the school to prison pipeline, and much more.

Finally, I know we can keep our communities safe without following racist “tough on crime” policies. My first priority to making a change in this direction is to hire a Police Director who has a record of results in culture change and is focused on making significant changes in how we police our city.

3. How do you plan to involve citizens in the decision making process of this office?

My platform includes significant shifts to how the city does business, including how Memphians are brought into the governing process. Notably, my plan Institutes a budget process that is both participatory and equity focused, where every department is required to create their budget and plans alongside our citizens in public forums and will have to demonstrate how every dollar is considered to first be spent where it is needed most. . My plan also build neighborhood councils reflective of our faith communities, neighborhood associations and community development corporations, and citizens who will elevate concerns from their communities and have a working relationship with the administration and each other.. Finally, my plan creates a union roundtable to ensure the voice of workers are well-represented in the future of the city and reflected in the budget allocation.
