What would be your top three priorities if elected?

* I am passionate about is the Career Technical Education (CTE) Center that will serve the needs of the students of USD232. CTE programming will help students gain key skills to assist them in securing a job after graduation. It will help them explore career options. While I certainly would encourage anyone seek a college degree, the reality is a four-year college experience isn’t for everyone, and career and technical education provides valuable options for students as they prepare for the next steps after high school.

* I’ve talked to school administrators, teachers and various leaders within the district and they all are excited to be a part of such an outstanding district, which has its communities support. You can feel the positive energy that is part of USD 232 and I want to continue to build on this.

•The foundation of our public schools is based on the amazing teachers that serve students in this district and across the state. Our public schools are the heartbeat Kansas.

What skills, expertise, or competencies qualify you for this position?

While serving my commercial banking clients in the community for the past 20 years, I have also had the opportunity to serve on several children’s advocacy committees, such as Kansas Action for Children and the Kansas Career and Technical Education Committee. My time on these boards has taught me so much about children and their needs.

I am also the mother of three daughters, one in elementary school and two in middle school. I lead a girl scout troop and a middle school youth group.

How would you suggest your school district address diversity issues for the most positive outcome?

I believe that any and all students should have access to public education in a positive, non-discriminatory environment. Diversity is essential in student’s growth in development. Students, teachers and administrators should be educated on diversity, what it is and how it affects the educational environment around them. To put it bluntly, diversity Is critically important to the world-view of our students and I’ll support efforts to expand on it whenever possible.
