1. What do you believe are the three critical projects or initiatives that will move your city/district forward?

1. The Proposed Community Center - We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to create a city center campus here in PV. Not only do we have the support of the Johnson County Library and the YMCA of Greater KC, there have been several healthcare groups that have shown interest in investing in a rehabilitation center within this facility. There are currently over 1700 people who are members of the Paul Henson YMCA who would likely carryover their membership to the new community center.

2. Sustainability Initiatives - PV has already proven to be a leader in green initiatives and environmental sustainability. Our City Hall runs on geothermal energy, we have multiple electric charging stations throughout PV, and the city is looking into building the new public works facility with the goal of becoming LEED Platinum certified.

3. Continue to upgrade and replace our aging infrastructure while incorporating sustainable and green technology as we move forward.

2. What skills, expertise, or competencies qualify you for this position?

Over the past few years, I have become extremely active in issues affecting Prairie Village. I have pulled together neighbors, city staff and state representatives on a number of problems that were not being addressed in our community. Some of these issues included the aging electrical infrastructure on my block as well as infrastructural issues affecting the Village Shops. Both of these issues have been resolved.

Professionally, I own a music & sound production company with my husband. I wear many hats and have to coordinate with a multitude of people for each project and client that we work with. I think these unique skills go hand in hand with the skills needed to be an effective councilwoman.

3. What specific actions should your city take or continue to insure affordable housing is available?

In PV much of the affordable housing has been purchased by developers who are tearing these homes down and building $800,000+ homes where a $100,000 home once stood. I think our city needs to continue to tighten our ordinances in an effort to balance out this trend.

One solution is that once a property is purchased for demolition, work must begin within a certain time-frame. In many instances, home building companies are purchasing multiple homes at a time, and then they just sit on the homes until someone purchases a custom home to be built there.

We also need to address skyrocketing property tax increases over the past few years. I have been researching propositions in a number of states that have been created to address similar problems. Several of these propositions have brought significant relief to residents and have kept the year over year rise in property taxes to a minimum. I will push for our state representatives to create a similar proposition here in Kansas.
