Describe your background and qualifications for this position.

I moved to Venice 32 years ago and was raised here. I have spent 17 years in Public Safety and I am a small business owner in the city. I am a father of two amazing daughters and loving husband of my amazing wife who is an ER nurse. I am an active member of our community as a member of the Suncoast Reef Rovers, board member of the Venice Fire Pension Board, and former member of the Youth Advisory board in my youth. I serve in the National Disaster Medical System as a Deputy Team Commander and deployed nationally to a variety of events and disasters with such agencies as the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). I have worked in law enforcement as a SWAT medic, I am a Firefighter and a Paramedic. I am an educator and an active instructor for Sarasota County School Board. I am actively working to improve the environment and our water quality.

What are the 3 most important issues handled by the office you seek? How do you propose to handle these issues?

Environment/Water Quality. Growth/Development. Public Safety.

I am actively working to improve our water quality and maintain our environment. I would like to build relationships with county and state leaders to improve these together.

I would like to focus on sustainable growth and focus on an infrastructure that supports what is currently here. I plan to work on this smartly and responsibly mindful of the JPA and comp. plan to preserve the beauty that is Venice. I grew up here and I want to maintain the paradise we live in.

I have over 17 years in Public Safety. I want to use my experience to keep Venice a safe and healthy community for many years to come. With my background in emergency response and emergency management I feel that I am a true asset in the new venture to treat and transport our residents on our own ambulances by running our own EMS service through our fire department. I would like to provide the tools to our police officers to continue keeping us safe.

What restrictions, if any, would you place on future development in Venice?

I will work within the current Joint Planning Agreement (JPA) with the county and the Comprehensive Plan to manage what is already planned to avoid wasting tax dollars on law suits that will not stand up in court. I would like to see the developers pay 100% of the impact of development. I think it is important that any costs incurred by our tax payers for a new development be incurred completely by the developer and not the current city residents. I think it is also critical that any new development as allowed by the JPA and comprehensive plan be compatible with our current infrastructure and community. I think it is important for us as a city to have over site of development that effects our city.

Describe your background and qualifications for this position.

I have over 15 years of experience in public service, most recently with the City of Venice as a Code Enforcement Officer. I have spent almost five years listening to the concerns of residents and business owners in my current position with the city. I have an insider understanding of how government operates. I would like to see a responsive, proactive government as opposed to a reactive government. I have served as an assistant to the Supervisor (Mayor) of the City (population 200,000+), as a Deputy City Clerk, Hearing Officer, Administrator, and Ordinance Inspector certified with the International Building Code, with 8 other certifications, including the International Fire Code. I have extensive experience in the drafting of local ordinances in conjunction with the aforementioned codes. I also have a small business in the city.

What are the 3 most important issues handled by the office you seek? How do you propose to handle these issues?

1. Manage Growth Responsibly to preserve our quaint city. We must protect our residents by re-evaluating the change of zoning designations and the granting of special exceptions. 2. Clean Environment - Clean Water. Testing the Gulf including the outfalls and tributaries. Releasing the results to the public in a timely manner. Working with experts to resolve the issues. Maintaining streets, trees, and parks in accordance with environmentally responsible practices. 3. Open Government. Creating a proactive, responsive government as opposed to a reactive government. Collaboration with County Commissioners and State Legislators on issues that affect our City. Partnering with residents and business owners to maintain a vibrant downtown.

What restrictions, if any, would you place on future development in Venice?

I believe all future development should follow the comprehensive plan and zoning and be compatible with surrounding properties. We need to stop granting exceptions and/or the upzoning and downzoning.
