Together, the House of Representatives and the Senate constitute the Connecticut General Assembly (CGA). The General Assembly enacts legislation dealing with state appropriations and finance, public welfare, the environment, public works, housing, education, civil and criminal laws, and other matters. The Senate tries all impeachments of executive and judicial branch officials. In Connecticut, members of the state’s legislative body, the General Assembly, must be at least eighteen years old and reside in the district they represent. Senate and House members serve two-year terms. Candidates were asked to respond to questions developed by local Leagues of Women Voters (LWV). Candidates enter their replies directly into Vote411, and replies are not edited by the LWV.This is the link to the CGA website: https://www.cga.ct.gov/To view sample ballots go to this website:- https://portal.ct.gov/sots/election-services/town-ballots/2026-november-town-election-ballots

Nick Gauthier is a Waterford native and Working Families Party Democrat, proudly serving as the State Representative for Connecticut’s 38th District. During his time in office, Nick has proven himself to be a tireless advocate for the residents of Waterford and Montville.
A native of Waterford, Nick Gauthier graduated from Waterford High School before earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Public Administration from the University of New Haven.
Nick was elected to his first term as State Representative for Connecticut’s 38th District in 2024.
Supporting Working Families
As both a labor organizer and State Representative, Nick has spent his career fighting for working people. He supports Connecticut Paid Leave, Paid Sick Days, One Fair Wage and will always stand with unions in their right to collectively bargain for fair pay, strong benefits, and safe working conditions.
Education
Investing in our students is imperative. Nick introduced legislation to restore Connecticut’s universal school meals program, ensuring every student, regardless of means, has access to nutritious meals. Families benefit too, saving both money and the daily burden of shopping, meal prepping and packing lunches. And while that work continues, Nick has already delivered results closer to home, securing $132,000 in the biennium budget to eliminate school meal debt for students in Waterford and Montville.
Housing
Connecticut is one of the most expensive states to buy or rent a home. A severe housing shortage, rising homelessness, and increasing corporate ownership of housing are all driving this crisis. In his first term in the General Assembly, Nick supported major housing legislation to expand opportunities for first-time homebuyers, invest in converting vacant office space into housing, and strengthen protections for renters.
Advance the SECT offshore wind program spearheaded by Connecticut Roundtable on Climate & Jobs, which seeks to establish the New London port specifically and South Eastern Connecticut overall as a manufacturing and shipping hub for sustainable energy infrastructure projects up and down the East Coast for the foreseeable future, leading to the creation of thousands of high-paying union jobs for our district and region.
Levy carbon and methane taxes in order to accurately reflect the destructive greenhouse effect, pollutive impact on our breathable air and potable water, and devastating cost to our ecosystem of the extraction and burning of these fossil fuels by the fossil fuel industry.
In agreement with municipal ordinances, permanently ban fracking in our state.
The evidence on the impact of data centers has been more negative over time. But in Connecticut, prior to passing the 2021 tax subsidies for the data center industry, the impact of hyperscale data centers was not well-studied.
