As a municipal position, I would want to prioritize building 3rd spaces, working towards pedestrian infrastructure and working to build/expand our borough local businesses.
The most important issue for me is how separated and disconnected the area is. Multiple residents as I canvassed expressed the area as a place to "Bide time" until they eventually moved on. No home should feel like a stepping stone, but that is the result of decaying social opportunities with the exception of small groups of neighborhoods. Multitudes of residents go overlooked simply because they do not happen to live in the right area. I would like to engage in the work of intersectional education and community building to bridge the gap.
The borough currently shares some services and schools with surrounding municipalities. I believe there is room to expand on this in terms of doing cross municipality work to build local transit systems. There are local policies that can be put in place to make this not so walkable area into connected hubs of commute. There is also work to be done to meaningfully address the growing opioid epidemic in terms of building shared municipal resource centers and supervised use centers. Too often real people are labeled as trespassers to be "shipped off" elsewhere.
Multiple businesses that have been built and continue to be built are not businesses geared to support a local economy - but capitalize on poor city planning to add just another location data point for their company. I believe with the combination of remediating our low walkability area with local initiatives to connect residents and a focus on building/maintaining local businesses we can attract a better economy. Instead of passing glances of the exact same companies you'll see across the US, providing the unique flavor that Stratford has to offer.
I am a long time laborer and have spanned multiple fields. I have worked warehouse, healthcare, schools, customer service, gigs and a range of other titles. It has allowed me the capacity for understanding and listening to varying expertise and view points. My want to run is seated in the desire to connect our community and building infrastructure based in solidarity and progress. The amount of people who expressed they simply don't see politics making its way to their front door has left me understanding there is a significant lack of face-to-face engagement with those claiming to represent us. I bring the want to know and engage with as many residents in this borough as possible.
