VOTE411 Voter Guide

Laurel Springs School District {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

An elected school board member serves a three-year term. The school board represents the concerns of citizens, taxpayers and parents to the school administrators, and represents the needs of the students and school district to citizens, taxpayers and parents. The school board does not operate the district on a day-to-day basis; that is the job of the superintendent (the district’s chief executive). Rather, the school board sets policies, goals and objectives for the district, and holds the superintendent responsible for implementing those policies and goals. Within the past two years there has been many changes that hv not been in the student’s or staff’s best interests. I’ve had three boys come through this school, and my heart grows fonder knowing my youngest daughter will hv more beautiful years @ Laurel Springs Elementary. However, the changes are too much in contrast of what I had experienced in the past.
My top two main goals as a board member is to ensure longevity in the administration and teaching staff. Making sure we invest in our current staff, as well as, a consistent principal and superintendent.
Current test scores reflect low to normal range. I believe that the consistency of teachers, staff and administration, creates relationships beyond the classroom. This ensures a students success from all corners of life. Investing in the longevity of our staff is monumental to student success.
The safety measures in our school are up to par, however the current BOE meetings are not transparent enough for the community to know exactly how up to date, or if any improvements can be made.
The first issue facing our district is having a revolving door for the administration and teaching staff. As well as, getting rid of a principal position and lowering it to a vice principal. The current BOE approved a new superintendent, who is 9 already years in a neighboring district with lower levels of student success. This only means, there will be a new face, once again. Secondly, the BOE administration is not transparent to the community and treats the members of our community like children. I believe better communication and transparency is effective in the cotinuity of community involvment. The third reason is no one is investing the our current staff or administrations. BOE is saving money by downgrading our school.
