My overarching goal is to create an environment where teachers and staff feel supported and have what they need to do their jobs well. As a member of the board, I will contribute my experience to help ensure currently ongoing projects are executed efficiently and result in facilities that give teachers and students what they need to maintain the current high standard at HPTS into the future. I’m also interested in ways we can maximize opportunities for students to take advantage of career and technical programs. I would like to work to remove barriers if they exist (for example schedules, transportation, or awareness) and make sure interested students are able to receive a training placement if desired.
I have a son who is a graduate of Houghton High School and a daughter who is currently in 10th grade. I'm also in my fourth year as an assistant middle school cross country coach. I've witnessed first-hand the great things happening at HPTS and I want to be a steward of this resource for the community. I am a licensed professional engineer and a certified project management professional. My experience managing cost and schedule on large design and build programs – writing the budgets, making decisions, holding baselines, working with suppliers, and reporting progress to a plan - would be an asset to the board when developing long-term plans, navigating complex projects, and fostering a relationship with the community.

My priorities as a Houghton-Portage Township Schools Board of Education trustee are to serve our students’ best interests through responsible governance and to represent the community through deliberate listening.
I believe that high-quality public education strengthens students and the greater community. All schools deserve a board filled with respectful leaders working to advocate for the success of students, teachers, staff, and taxpayers. I am committed to serving our school district and community wholeheartedly and with full presence.
My qualifications include nine years of service on the HPTS Board of Education. During my tenure, I’ve focused on continuous professional development, earning the Michigan Association of School Boards’ Award of Distinction. Professionally, I lead a corporate accounting organization for a global retailer. My 24 years of industry experience give me a broad perspective to leverage in my board service.
My family is deeply connected to the Keweenaw and our school district. Having lived here for nearly 15 years, we proudly have three current HPTS students and one Gremlin graduate.
