Education Bachelors Degree in Family Life and Education
SPSD has two Blue Ribbon Schools, Handley and SASA. This is a strength because we are able to successfully educate our gifted and talented students. Another strength of the district is the collaboration it has with the colleges and universities in the county. The partnership with Delta College created the first Early College Dual Enrollment Program in Saginaw Public Schools.
I am involved in the Saginaw Fairground Neighborhood Association and was recently selected to serve on their Board. I am a Branch Councillor for Forester Financial. Up until last year when the program lost funding, I was heavily involved in Great Start Collaborative's Parent Collation for over 15 years. I serve on the Women of Colors Prevention Team.
I am familiar with how the board operates and I understand the importance of being present. I've worked with families in this community for over twenty years and they trust me. I am easily approachable. I am dedicated in making educated decisions that help move the district forward.
One of the most important challenges facing SPSD is making sure that the community has a complete and accurate picture of what is happening in our schools. So many positive things go on in the district and with our students, but it is outshined by anything negative that occurs. We have students graduating with scholarships, pursuing higher education whether it's through college or trades. We have staff that work really hard to provide opportunities for our students to succeed. As a board member, I think it's important that we continue to address the problems honestly and with transparency while doing a better job communicating our successes and progress. Our students deserve to be celebrated.
I'm running for reelection because I love my community, and I believe our schools are one of the most important parts of the community. I am born and raised in Saginaw and a proud product of Saginaw Public Schools. My children and grandchildren are products of this district. The district helped shape who I am today, and I understand the importance of a strong school system for children, families and the community. I believe in volunteering in my community and serving on the school board give me an opportunity to continue to give back to my community.
