I have lived in the Swartz Creek community for 11 years and am a proud Dragon. I have been attending school board meetings to experience how decisions are discussed and made in the board room. I have been involved in Swartz Creek volunteering in schools and classrooms, PTO and community events. I have held leadership positions in my church that impact both internal and external programs. I welcome discussions with stakeholders from different viewpoints. I feel it is important to understand the impact school board decisions have on all members of our community.
I chose to run for the school board of Swartz Creek Community Schools because I have a child in the district and I want him to receive the best education possible. I believe that it is important for school board members to have conversations with parents, staff and community members to understand differing viewpoints on decisions coming before the school board. It is important for all to be heard. I want our school board to be forward focused to provide a quality and competitive education. Our schools are responsible for educating current and future generations of Swartz Creek community members.
My top priority is stability for leadership in Swartz Creek Community Schools. We need to work to retain administrators, teachers and support staff in our district. Keeping district leadership is important to build teams in the district and individual school buildings. Having strong teams of educators should improve classroom education, test scores and retention. To accomplish this, the school board needs to make sure that we are competitive with area districts with pay and benefit offerings to help with retention. The school board needs to listen to administrators, employees and community members prior to making decisions.
I believe that our school funding will have a high impact on how our schools function. School districts rely on state funding, which has to be approved by the government, along with bonds and grants to provide education. Keeping up with grant funding/writing can be a big challenge. Another challenge for districts is retaining current employees and attracting new employees. There is a smaller pool of educators graduating from universities and applying for positions in the schools so having a welcoming and accepting culture in the district is vital to attract new staff.
I welcome conversations and discussions. I feel it is very important to understand how the community, parents and staff feel about what is happening in our school district. I plan to be visible and approachable. I believe that it is important for school board members to be active in the community and district events. We all need to work together to provide the best education for our students. The current Swartz Creek students are our community's future. I encourage voters to reach out and ask questions.

I have been a previous school board member in SC for 21 years, serving 11 years as board President. I am a Certified Board Member with the Michigan Association of School Boards, and currently serve on other boards, SC City Council, SC Kiwanis, SC Chamber of Commerce and the Durand Chamber of Commerce.
I believe SC schools are being misdirected by the current Board of Education and I would appreciate the opportunity to use my experiences, to help “right the ship” and put SC schools back on the path to being a leading school district in the state.

Top priority is to get the school district back to one of the best. How do I do this, by working with staff and parents to achieve the ultimate in test goals, school security and safety, transparency, clean and healthy learning environment and integrity. It is the responsibility as a school board member to insure that the tools to achieve these goals, are provided.
Challenges facing school districts, being able to provide the tools needed, with the limited funds provided. Work with legislators to provide a consistent base in which to measure school achievement versus changing the matrix every few years, and to have a safe, healthy and welcoming school environment.

I have lived in Swartz Creek for a large majority of my life. I graduated from SC schools, my wife and I raised our son who graduated from SC schools, and we continue to live and engage with our community. I want to work to make SC school and the community, a destination area for people looking for a great school system, fantastic community in which to move and raise their families.

Campaign Message COMMITTED TO MAKING SWARTZ CREEK A TOP-NOTCH SCHOOL DISTRICT
I previously served on the city of Swartz Creek Planning Commission. This quality brings to the table as working together, sharing ideas, listening and brainstorming as a group in making decisions.
I'm inspired to serve and work together with the board to make good things happen here to create an environment where the students and staff look forward to coming to school. I offer the time, talent and service to commit to help create Swartz Creek Schools to becoming a top-notch school district.
My top priorities for the district are creating a dynamic educational environment to help each and every student learn and thrive. To know and understand a good education and skill set is important to them, their development and future. I am committed to creating comprehensive programs and supporting professional development for the staff to contribute to the successful implementation of these programs. Substantial support, oversight and accountability of our school budget to provide the resources for the intended purposes and programs will also provide the transparency and successful outcomes for our school district.
Some challenges facing school boards and districts in the future are to improve academic development and performance, especially in the subjects of math and reading. Presently, the percentages in the fourth grades are not acceptable. This needs to be addressed. The higher the grade levels might not improve and could result in more dropout rates.
I am a Swartz Creek native and graduated from here. I have a degree from Baker College in Flint in management with over 15 years of management experience. My son attended Morrish Elementary from kindergarten through fifth grade, the Middle School and the High School Alternative Education. I am a mother and grandmother. I understand the challenges of parents with school aged children. I am committed to student achievement, academic development, reducing student truancy and drop out rates and ensuring the resources get to the proper programs.
