I have served as a Councilman and as a State Representative for Flint in the past and have built many good relationships with leaders and government agencies at the federal and state levels. Being able to work well with these leaders is key to getting Flint the help that we need to grow and prosper.
Making our city safer is always a priority for my administration. I will continue to hire as many police officers as we can, and do what we can to retain the ones we have. I will make sure violent offenders aren't immediately released after arrest due to lack of jail space by opening our city lock-up, and I will build a new police and fire training facility to make sure our first responders have the very best training available.
Making life more affordable for our residents is a big priority for my administration. I will approach this by doing things like challenging the bad 30 year water contract we were stuck with. If successful this can lower our water bills. I will also create a Director of Insurance. Our new city charter allows for the city to pool insured customers together to shop for heavily discounted group rates. This could cut out the middle man and bring cheaper rates to everyone in Flint!
Absolutely. Elected leaders should act as role models for our youth and they should never take advantage of their positions to make financial gains with the knowledge the gain as an elected official. This includes using city funds to filter money to themselves, their family or even their friends.
I have lived in Flint my whole life and I have only ever lived in 2 homes this whole time. The home I was raised in and the home I bought with my wife, that we raised our two daughters in, that we still live in today.
