VOTE411 Voter Guide

State Representative District 109

Together, the House of Representatives and the Senate constitute the Connecticut General Assembly (CGA). The General Assembly enacts legislation dealing with state appropriations and finance, public welfare, the environment, public works, housing, education, civil and criminal laws, and other matters. The Senate tries all impeachments of executive and judicial branch officials. In Connecticut, members of the state’s legislative body, the General Assembly, must be at least eighteen years old and reside in the district they represent. Senate and House members serve two-year terms. Candidates were asked to respond to questions developed by local Leagues of Women Voters (LWV). Candidates enter their replies directly into Vote411, and replies are not edited by the LWV.This is the link to the CGA website: https://www.cga.ct.gov/This is the link to Sample Ballots for each Town found on the Secretary of State website: https://portal.ct.gov/sots/election-services/town-ballots

We need to start by looking at the energy resources we already have and making sure they are reliable, efficient, and being used to their full potential. Connecticut has nuclear power at Millstone, and we have access to natural gas supplies in our region. We should examine how to make better use of these resources while protecting reliability and keeping costs affordable. While renewable energy has a place in our future, we must carefully evaluate the costs versus the benefits. We cannot continue supporting energy policies without understanding their long-term financial impact on ratepayers. We need stronger oversight of our utility companies, accountability for how ratepayer money is spent, and review state-mandates on our electric bills
I would start by identifying vacant and underutilized buildings that could be converted into affordable housing. I would work with local officials and developers to streamline planning and permits while maintaining safety standards. We should revitalize existing properties before developing more open land. However, we must consider the impact on schools, roads, public safety, and taxpayers. I believe local communities, not Hartford, should have the strongest voice in housing development decisions. Affordable housing isn't just about rent or mortgage payments. Property taxes, electricity, heating, and other living expenses must also be addressed. My goal is development that helps families, working people, and seniors afford to live here
My priorities in the next legislative session would be making Connecticut more affordable, reducing the burden of taxes and high electric rates, and demanding accountability for taxpayer spending. I would work to secure fair education funding for Danbury while ensuring those dollars reach classrooms and improve reading and math proficiency. I would support strong public safety, our first responders, and small businesses. With 27 years in the fire service and over 30 years as a small business owner, I understand the importance of responsible budgets, common sense decisions, and measurable results. My focus would be putting the needs of Danbury residents and Connecticut taxpayers first.
