I served for 12 years as a Polk county commissioner (2008-2020) and have served numerous other Polk County boards, including the board of trustees of Isothermal Community College. I am currently serving on the agricultural advisory board and as the chair of the Polk Planning board.
The most important issue currently for Polk County is protecting the beautiful, rural nature of our county, especially from the harms of AI data centers.
Because of significant rising of property taxes paid by our citizens, I will be a strong advocate for sound and fiscally conservative spending of taxpayer dollars and the reduction of tax rates were possible.
I will support our local law-enforcement, excellent schools, health services, and county employees.
I support transparency in all County government activities and in treating all people with respect.
During my prior 12 years on the Polk County Board of commissioners, I have a proven record of strong support for our excellent public schools. I will continue to advocate that the county budget continues to show strong fiscal support for our public school teachers and the maintenance of our school facilities.
The most important aspect of Polk County is the broad base public support of protecting the beautiful rural nature of our County. Therefore, as a county commissioner, I will support businesses that are part of this vision for our County. For example: family run businesses, farm farms, creameries, wineries, agri-tourism businesses, etc.
I will also work hand-in-hand with our three small towns, Tryon, Columbus, Saluda, to help enhance business opportunities within their municipalities.
I will not support major industrial, large commercial or the building of data centers in our county.
During my 12 prior years on the Polk County Board of commissioners, I spearhead the building of a new Department of Social Services building. This new facility greatly enhanced the services that could be provided to those in our county who needed these services. I have always been a strong supporter of DSS with the knowledge that this County service is focused mainly on helping support children and the elderly in our county. I will continue my proven record of support for these services.
Standing up for Polk County has never been more important! My previous 12 years of service as a Polk County Commissioner means I am the candidate with the most experience and ability to make county government work for YOU! I am known for getting things done and for respecting every personās voice. I will put my experience to work to protect our beautiful, rural County from harmful developments and to make sure we have a transparent and fiscally sound Government.
I am a lifelong resident of Western North Carolina, who attended public schools and UNC Asheville. My wife and I are fortunate to have all of our adult children and their families living here in our County. Our farm with horses and hay production is located in Green Creek. I have been a small business owner for 40+ years. I am a licensed General Contractor and Realtor. I Served 12 years on Polk BOC, worked on many Boards and as a Trustee on ICC Community college Board. Currently on Ag Advisory & Chair Polk Planning Board.

I have served on this board for seven years after being appointed to fill a vacancy and have been Re-elected twice during this time. I currently serve as the vice chairman as well serving on several boards in the county. Here in Polk County we are the 16 lowest tax rate in the state. I'm proud of that number. If you look at my voting record you will see that i'm very conservative.
We must continue to protect our precious farmland and farmers from the big developers. And as always work to keep our taxes low.
First and foremost this board of commissioners has maintained a very healthy relationship with our school system. I've always been a proponent for our schools. We have always worked to provide the funds requested during the budget process.
We must continue to support and promote small business. One example is our Agri business community.
Advocate more to the State and Federal government to ensure they are paying their share. Make sure we aren't spending too many local dollars on social programs.Maximize state and federal contributions.
