GUILFORD COUNTY SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT SUPERVISOR {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

The non-paid board of supervisors meets monthly to establish local soil and water conservation priorities based on the needs of the district. The Board chairs work groups to address these priorities through the installation and implementation of best management practices that protect and improve the natural resources within the district. The work is accomplished by partnering with local, state and federal agencies; businesses; and non-profit organizations for technical and financial assistance. The Division of Soil and Water Conservation administers ACSP, AgWRAP and CCAP, and holds each local board of supervisors accountable to these state programs. Each district is governed by a five-member board of supervisors. Three supervisors are elected on the general ballot as non-partisan candidates during the regular election of county officers, and two are appointed by the NC Soil and Water Conservation Commission upon recommendation of the local district board of supervisors.

I am an agriculture educator, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), LEED AP, and hardscrabble, dryland tiny farmer. I’m running for Guilford County Soil & Water Conservation District Supervisor to help protect our soil, conserve our water, and preserve the natural resources that sustain our community and future generations.

As founder of AllAgConsidered, Inc., an agriculture education nonprofit, I promote agricultural literacy, environmental stewardship, and a better understanding of our food systems. On my Tiny Farm, I practice regenerative agriculture, build healthy soil, conserve water, and grow a regenerative food forest. I believe conservation is best understood when we put it into practice
Our most pressing needs are protecting remaining farmland, forests, wetlands, and open spaces while managing rapid growth. We must balance economic development with responsible land use and long-term soil and water conservation.

Slow MEGA DATA CENTER permitting.

I will advocate for 1. Greater accountability from developers for water consumption and storm water management.

2. Smarter planning to prevent unnecessary loss and fragmentation of farmland and natural areas

3. Use of proven conservation practices to improve soil health, protect water quality, and increase biodiversity.

By working with landowners, communities, and conservation partners, we can build a more resilient landscape and a sustainable future for Guilford County.
The Guilford County Soil and Water Conservation District’s greatest strength is making conservation practical and accessible to everyone.

Through education, technical assistance, public outreach, and community partnerships, the District helps farmers, landowners, students, and residents protect farmland, improve soil health, and conserve water.

By working with NC Cooperative Extension, NRCS, county government, schools, and local organizations, we can turn good information into meaningful action.

We should also expand student participation in programs like the high school Envirothon to engage young people and develop tomorrow’s conservation leaders.
My LinkedIn profile demonstrates my experience in farming, energy conservation, business, and agriculture education. This diverse background will shape my perspective as a Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor. https://www.linkedin.com/in/andrewcourts/

As NC experiences increased economic growth and population expansion, we must balance development with responsible land use, water conservation, and protection of our natural resources.

Every new subdivision, business expansion, and data center will bring important questions about water consumption, storm water runoff, soil health, and the land’s ability to absorb and store water.

"Slow it, Spread it, Sink it" has never been more important. Applying science-based soil and water conservation practices, we can support smart growth, protect our open lands, and build a more resilient Guilford County.

Healthy soil grows healthy plants, healthy people, and healthy communities.

Please vote for Andrew J. (Andy) Courts, Jr.!

I bring local government, nonprofit, and business experience to this role. I know how to navigate governmental bureaucracy and get things done within the system, not stuck in it. Through my nonprofit work building tiny house communities, I've gained real hands-on experience with land use and development — and I've seen firsthand the tension between growth and protecting our farmland. That's the issue I care about most: too much productive farmland is being lost to housing development. My business background gives me the budget and project management skills to steward district resources responsibly. I'm ready to bring practical, on-the-ground experience to protecting our soil and water for the long term.
Our district faces three connected challenges: severe and persistent drought straining farms and water resources, the need to keep conservation programs funded and running effectively, and agricultural land management pressures — especially farmland being lost to housing development. I'd expand technical support for drought resilience, use my experience navigating bureaucracy and budgets to secure and manage funding more effectively, and push for stronger coordination with local planning bodies and farmland preservation tools to slow the loss of productive land.
The Agricultural Water Resources Assistance Program (AgWrap) is widely regarded as the most effective service the Guilford County Soil and Water Conservation District currently provides.
I am endorsed by Equality NC: Equality NC (ENC) is the largest LGBTQ rights advocacy group and political lobbying organization in North Carolina and is the oldest statewide LGBTQ equality organization in the United States.

I am also endorsed by Replacements, Ltd PAC: The primary purpose of the PAC is to influence the election of local, state, and national candidates who will best support and promote common-sense policies advancing legal equality, human rights, and community well-being.

I am self-funding this campaign and ask that in place of donations to my campaign you donate to your favorite non-profit or charity.
