I have over 24 years of experience practicing law. I have served as an Assistant District Attorney and as a Magistrate Judge, giving me the experience with a broad range of civil and criminal matters in District Court. I also have experience as a family financial mediator. Beyond my professional experience, I am a mother of two children and an active member of my community. Through community volunteer service, I have had the opportunity to listen to and work with people from diverse backgrounds and circumstances. These experiences have strengthened my ability to listen, communicate effectively, evaluate complex issues, and approach each matter with fairness, patience and respect.
As a District Court Judge, my responsibility is to follow the law and upholding both the North Carolina Constitution and United States Constitution. While I am a member of the Democratic party, my judicial decisions are guided by the law, the facts presented in each case, and the constitutional rights of all parties. I believe justice is best administered by having the patience to listen to all the parties and by extending fairness, grace and mercy permitted by law to every person who appears before the court. All persons should be treated equally and fairly, regardless of race, ethnicity, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, socioeconomic status.
I have practiced as a criminal defense attorney and served as an Assistant District Attorney and a Magistrate Judge in Guilford County, North Carolina. These positions have given me extensive experience in criminal law from multiple perspectives. I have handled cases in juvenile and DSS courts, both defending and prosecuting matters. I am currently in private practice and handle primarily family law cases, with more than 24 years of experience in this area. My broad courtroom experience, combined with understanding of these issues affecting families, children, and individuals involved in the justice system, has prepared me to thoughtfully and effectively handle the diverse matters that come before a District Court Judge from day one.
I am honored to be on the ballot, and I look forward to serving the citizens of Guilford County North Carolina as your new District Court Judge. Thank you for your support and for your vote!
