Experience. I do not have to tell you what I will do, you can simply look at what I have done. My service record is built on the success of my constituency, from health care expansion and education advocacy, all the way to university funding and public park improvement, Greensboro has certainly benefitted from my time in the legislature. And will continue to do so, God willing.
My biggest priorities are education and health care access. For all of my career as a Senator, I have been a staunch advocate for both, and that will never change. Being apart of landmark legislation that has changed the way our State views and allocates funding to these two vital services has only made me more motivated to continue to champion these imperative causes.
While we have done a lot for teachers in Guilford County with the 2026 Appropriations Act, there is still much more work to be done in order to make our city an attractive and retentive destination for educators. Increasing salary, like we did this summer, was a great start, but now we must focus on the classroom environment, ensuring teachers are not being overwhelmed by class sizes, and are being offered advanced educational opportunities outside of the classroom that will improve the standard of education inside of it. We can have all the funding in the world, but it is moot unless our teachers are properly equipped to succeed.
Tax policy should play a vital role in supporting our State's economy. As for the needs of our residents, our constituency should feel involved, and have a seat at the table when it comes to policy shifts and changes. This is historically something we have struggled with, both at the state and local levels, so cultivating a clear line of communication in which our constituents feel heard and valued should be the first priority.
It really all starts with poverty. There is no law making it illegal to be poor, but selective economic development puts many of our communities at risk of falling prey to a life of crime. We must make the conversation about equity, rather than equality. There are opportunities, especially in my own constituency, to address the issue of crime at the root, with economic development that actually provides jobs for the at risk populations in our City. Opportunities that provide these things should be prioritized in a way our we have not quite been able to do so yet.
I look forward to serving the great City of Greensboro for another term in the North Carolina Senate, and would be honored to have your support.
