NC SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE DISTRICT 31B SEAT 01

The NC Superior Court is the trial court of general jurisdiction in North Carolina. It hears all felony cases and certain misdemeanor cases. In civil matters, superior courts hear civil disputes involving amounts over $25,000. Judges are elected for 8 year terms. The Superior Courts are divided into 5 divisions and further into 48 districts. There are 109 regular Superior Court judges under current state law, in addition to "special judges" who are appointed by the Governor, not elected. Judges rotate from district to district within their division every six months in order to avoid the danger of corruption or favoritism. Legislation in 2023 numerically realigned/renumbered the Superior Court and other court districts to align with the Prosecutorial districts.

I have a decade of experience serving on the Forsyth County District Court bench. Prior to being elected in 2016, I practiced in all of our trial courts, including federal and state court. My varied practice background coupled with my judicial experience allows me hit the ground running on the Superior Court. This new role would allow me to continue to give back to a State and community I love in a new and challenging way.

The economics of hiring an attorney to present one's case well in court is a current obstacle to justice. With ever increasing technology, the Courts can adapt to new methods that use technology to reduce costs and thereby increase justice to everyone, whether they are a litigant or observer.
