Since first being elected in 2018, I have built a record of leadership grounded in collaboration, accountability, and results. As Chair of the board of County Commissioners, I work across local and state government, private sector, nonprofits, neighborhoods, and community organizations to address complex challenges and move priorities forward. I bring the perspective of a veteran, entrepreneur, and longtime civic leader, along with an MBA and a background in political science. My strength is bringing people with different perspectives to the table, building consensus, and turning community needs into practical action that improves quality of life across Mecklenburg County.
The most important challenge facing Mecklenburg County is managing our continued growth in a way that keeps our community affordable and expands opportunity for everyone. That means addressing housing, economic mobility, education, transportation, public safety, access to essential services, and preserving open space and the community assets that sustain our quality of life. The County cannot solve these challenges alone. We must continue building strong partnerships with government partners, the private sector, nonprofits, and neighborhoods to align resources, reduce duplication, and deliver measurable results.
The County Commission’s most effective role is ensuring our schools have the resources necessary for students and educators to succeed while respecting the School Board’s responsibility to provide oversight and operate CMS. For four consecutive budget cycles, Mecklenburg County has fully funded CMS’s county funding request. I will continue to prioritize responsible funding, including competitive teacher pay, and meeting the capital needs of the District. Just as important, the County should continue to push initiatives that focus on early childhood education, workforce pathways, mental health and other supports that help children succeed inside and outside the classroom.
My approach continues to focus on pursuing growth that creates opportunity for the people who already call Mecklenburg County home. I support policies that attract and retain quality employers, strengthen small and local businesses, invest in workforce development, and connect residents to good-paying careers. Economic incentives should be tied to measurable public benefits, including jobs, wages, investment, and community impact. We must also invest in housing, transportation, infrastructure, and quality of life so growth is sustainable. The goal is not simply more development, but an economy where existing businesses can succeed and residents throughout Mecklenburg can participate in our prosperity.
I have focused on making social services easier to access, better coordinated, and more responsive to residents. That includes supporting neighborhood-based access, mobile and digital options, and strong partnerships with trusted nonprofits and community providers. I continue to prioritize behavioral health, housing stability, services for children, seniors and veterans, and support for families in crisis. I also push for stronger coordination across agencies, better language access, and clear measures of success so we know public dollars are improving outcomes for the people we serve.
I remain grateful for the opportunity to serve Mecklenburg County and I do not take that responsibility lightly. My approach has always been to stay close to the community, listen carefully, build strong partnerships, and work through differences to get results. I am proud of the progress we have made, but I also know there is more work ahead. As Mecklenburg continues to grow, I will remain focused on protecting quality of life, expanding opportunity, strengthening communities, and making sure residents see and feel the benefit of the decisions we make.
