I currently serve as North Carolina State Senator for Senate District 42. I am also a member of Charlotte Rotary and was a board member from 2022-2024. I was recently appointed to Governor Stein's Domestic Violence Commission, and am a member of the Survivor Input Task Force for the Umbrella Center. I am a part of the Mecklenburg County Domestic Violence Speakers Bureau as a classroom facilitator for their program Love Speaks Out. I am the NC Special Olympics State Games Volunteer Manager.
I view honoring our state constitution and fully funding public education as the most important priority that we have. This past year, we watched our State Supreme Court say the state does not have to fund public education. We as the legislature must move to fulfill this constitutional requirement in order to ensure that every child in North Carolina is given an equal opportunity and a level playing field. North Carolina should be known as the education state once again, giving every student a chance at success.
While the legislature took steps to increase pay for new teachers, we as the legislature need to do more. We need to make guardrails for the school voucher system, ensuring schools accepting vouchers are accredited and safe. We also need to increase pay for our veteran teachers in order to ensure we keep the best talent in North Carolina.
No one wants to pay higher income taxes and we are the number one state in business consistently, making the corporate income tax a great tool. I find it incredibly irresponsible that the current majority has supported the glide path of bringing the corporate income tax to 0. It should have been capped at 2.5% because businesses want to move here for a multitude of reasons, as they already have before this reckless tax plan was put into place. The taxes missed out on could have provided relief for hardworking families all across our state. Everyone could have benefitted from this.
The most important issue I want to influence is the introduction of the North Carolina Domestic Violence Registry, as we know domestic violence affects up to half of households in the United States, with North Carolina being the state with the greatest increase of domestic violence . As a survivor, I have seen domestic violence affect everything from my children to my business, making this one of the most holistic issues our communities face today. This is a bipartisan issue and working with my colleagues across the aisle, I know we can better protect the women and children of our state.

As a lawyer and former top executive, I have spent 35 years working on regulatory and public policy matters and solving complicated problems for major corporate clients. I’m a member in good standing of two bar associations. Throughout my professional career, I was never fired from a job, and my honesty and integrity was never questioned.
Reducing violent crime within Charlotte and throughout NC; improving the quality of Education, with a particular emphasis on reading and math proficiency; continued economic strength; improvements in overall affordability; and continued fiscal responsibility.
The NC General Assembly has recently passed the largest teacher pay increase in decades. I support those increases. Future funding should focus on programs that improve proficiency in reading and math when students are tested in the fourth and eighth grades. I believe every student should have an initial idea as to their post-high school career path, whether that be college, the military or a trade. Technical training for the trades should be an option in school curriculum.
North Carolina’s relatively low corporate and personal tax rates are one of the reasons our state has been ranked in each of the last three years first or second by CNBC as ‘best state in the country for business.’ Corporations are moving their headquarters here in record numbers, particularly in Charlotte, bringing good-paying jobs. In addition to attracting jobs, lower personal income and property tax rates improve affordability for residents, The General Assembly recently passed referenda that will be on the 2026 ballot to 1) cap the personal income tax rate at 3.5% and 2) grant power to the General Assembly to limit property tax increases. I support both measures. My opponent, Senator Woodson Bradley, skipped the votes on both bills,
In 2024, I published an Op-Ed in the Carolina Journal with Dan Bishop, which made specific recommendations to end the catch-and-release of violent criminals. Following the brutal murder of Iryna Zarutska here in Charlotte, the General Assembly moved quickly to pass ‘Iryna’s Law,’ which provided additional resources to our District Attorney’s office, eliminated cashless bail and limited the discretion of magistrates and judges to grant pretrial release of certain repeat violent offenders. My opponent, Mrs.Woodson Bradley, skipped the final vote on Iryna’s Law. Recent police shootings, teen takeovers and other violent crimes here suggest more needs to be done.
Politicians should be competent and of good character. I am such a person. My professional career, which began two weeks after I graduated from college, was one of continuously increasing responsibility: from cutting government waste with the Reagan Administration; a partnership at a major law firm; and executive position at Bank of America. I’m well-prepared to serve as a state senator. As noted, my honesty and integrity were never questioned during 35 years of hard work.

My opponent, Mrs. Woodson Bradley, spent her peak earning years as a top spokesperson, Platinum Sales Manager, trainer and a member of the ‘Ring of Honor’ for a pyramid scheme, Fortune Hi-Tech Marketing, which was shuttered by the FTC and former NCAG, Roy Cooper. Unsurprisingly, she’s been ineffective during her freshman year as a state senator: She’ll boast about sponsoring a record number of bills, without telling you NONE became law. As noted, she skipped votes on key laws to reduce crime and reduce taxes.
