I had a very successful career as a high school teacher, boys and girls basketball coach, department chair, assistant principal, high school principal and university workshop instructor. Educators need to be on boards of education, successful educators like myself know and understand what works and doesn't work in education and we know how to move schools forward.
School board members set policy for the school district. Keeping abreast of new laws and building relationships with lawmakers is very important for setting policies that will direct the positive direction of the school district.
Dare County is in need of affordable housing, that is why I have been a member of the Dare County Housing Task Force which became the Dare Housing Foundation for the past 2 1/2 years. The Foundatiion is committed to building affordable housing so that we can attract the best and brightest staff to our school distirct.
As the vice chair of the school board for the past three years, we formed a committee for the recruitment and retention of school staff. One of the strategies that came out of committee will be to hold a recruitment fair in Dare County so that we can showcase Dare County and our school district. It is important to bring prospective employees to Dare County so that each prospective employee can experience Dare County and what we have to offer!
Pre-K is very important to the success of every student. This program allows students to become fully prepared to enter elementary school.

Preparing students as early as elementary school for life after high school is paramount! My focus will always be on increasing academic rigor and academic success for our students. Supporting all school staff in this effort is the main goal! We are fortunate in Dare County that we have great support not only for our parents but from our county commssionors and business leaders, without this support we would not be one of the top school districts in North Carolina. I look forward to continued success in my second term.
