The NC District Court hears civil cases involving less than $25,000 and criminal misdemeanors. District Court also oversees juvenile court and the magistrates, which handle things like small claims and evictions. Judges are elected for 4 year terms. Legislation in 2023 numerically realigned/renumbered the District Court and other court districts to align with the Prosecutorial districts.

I've been on the bench for 18 months and I've shown that I can be fair and impartial. I've held all different courts in all seven counties; from juvenile to criminal, civil to family, Social Services to child support. I completed more than 120 hours of Continuing Judicial Education to learn to be the best judge I can possibly be to serve the people of this district.
I personally don't believe partisan politics has any place in a district court judge election. Until 2010 when the Republicans took over the NC Legislature judicial elections were non-partisan (along with most local elections). That changed in 2010. I can promise that when I'm on the bench I'm not thinking Democrat or Republican. I don't make law, I apply the laws that exist, whether I agree with them or not. I judge every case before me on the facts and the law in that case and nothing else.
Being a Public Defender for 11 years made me a great judge of character and truthfulness. I bring that experience with me every day to the bench. As far as family law and juvenile justice issues, I have extensive training and experience in those areas. I have been applying that training for the last 18 months and have ruled in dozens of custody and family law cases. I understand that when I make a ruling, particularly a ruling concerning custody of a child or children, that it could affect the rest of their lives and that is something I never take lightly.
I'm fair. I'm proven. I'm the only one in this race with experience being a judge. I've shown that I'm a good judge and I deserve to keep my seat.
