ALBEMARLE-CURRITUCK SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

The non-paid board of supervisors meets monthly to establish local soil and water conservation priorities based on the needs of the district. The Board chairs work groups to address these priorities through the installation and implementation of best management practices that protect and improve the natural resources within the district. The work is accomplished by partnering with local, state and federal agencies; businesses; and non-profit organizations for technical and financial assistance. The Division of Soil and Water Conservation administers ACSP, AgWRAP and CCAP, and holds each local board of supervisors accountable to these state programs.Each district is governed by a five-member board of supervisors. Three supervisors are elected on the general ballot as non-partisan candidates during the regular election of county officers, and two are appointed by the NC Soil and Water Conservation Commission upon recommendation of the local district board of supervisors.

I am a 73 year old Farmer. My father started talking and showing me Drainage issues when I was 10 years old. We would ride around in Currituck and Camden Counties. He would show me and explain what he thought the problem and the solution should be to reduce the flooding or excess water. I became a Currituck Soil & Water Conservation Supervisor in 1986 . In the 40 years that I have been a Supervisor; I have seen a lot of Storm and Hurricane and Beaver damage throughout all of Currituck County. Currituck has been very fortunate to have been declared a disaster area and have qualified for NC State and Federal funds to clear out the Drainage outlets all over Currituck County. Everybody's water has to go somewhere.
Currituck has several Drainage Tax Districts on the Mainland. After many, many years the monies in the Moyock Drainage Tax District are finally being spent on problems that were documented many years ago by Quible and Assoc. Engineers with photos and cost estimates. (2017) Hog Bridge Ditch Drainage District was set up in 1916. It is 4.3 miles long and includes Farmland and Homeowner sites. It has always been managed by 3 local farmers. I was elected in approx. 1990. A lot of times, the local Farmers come together and collect the money to take car of Beaver Dams and fallen trees and Debris by themselves. Sometimes; we apply for and use local Taxpayer funds just from all the Farmers and Homeowners who live within the Hog Bridge District.
We have an educated Soil & Water Technican (John Morrow) who can answer most any question you may have or knows the source to go to for answers. Cover crops: No-Till: Land Smoothing: Erosion Control: Rain Barrells: Farmland Preservation programs

He is familiar with the saving of Rainwater to irrigate your property with. Drainage programs that apply for our area and Currituck County. All Technican's are consistently having State Continuing Ed classes they have to attend to find out the latest in Soil & Water Conservation.
I enjoy meeting people. Hearing about their problems and concerns. Finding a solution to their peoblem.
