Albany County School District #1 TrusteeArea B, 4-year term: Voters may select 1 candidate for the one expiring position.ACSD#1 Board of Trustees includes nine elected officials, serving 4-year terms in the following areas. Area A refers to the city limits, excluding Cottonwood Estates and Roach Addition; Area B refers to county limits, including Cottonwood Estates and Roach Addition; At-Large includes Areas A and B. I am truly passionate about our community and our students. As a mother of three children—two of whom have graduated and a third who is still in the district as a student—I have seen our district adopt some truly unique and incredible programs, as well as face profound struggles. My hope, should I be elected, is to bring fresh ideas and perspectives to the table as our district and our state continue to adapt to the ever-changing circumstances of our world. I would lean on my experience leading the Open School Board for three years, my work with the high school football program, and the mentorship program that I run (TEAM) to weigh each topic of discussion with integrity and careful consideration for all families within our district.
Our primary challenge is the lack of funding autonomy, which restricts our district from allocating resources to best serve our students. Although state funding has increased, rigid spending restrictions create operational deficits in vital areas like athletics and activities. These budget constraints compromise our ability to maintain existing initiatives, secure essential safety gear, and expand our offerings, ultimately limiting students' opportunities to develop well-rounded interests and aptitudes. I would appeal to the legislature, encouraging recognition that especially in a diverse state such as Wyoming, each district faces unique challenges and should be able to utilize funding as needed in their district.
I believe that our students should be exposed to all post-graduation options. Providing classes and opportunities allowing our students to explore areas of interest and aptitude is paramount in supporting our student's future success. Leaning on local business relationships to create spaces to explore apprenticeships, internships, shadowing and/or mentoring would allow students to confidently step into the next chapter of their lives. Continuing partnerships with LCCC and UW in conjunction with solid support from our high school teachers and counselors would encourage our college bound students to navigate a sometimes complicated and confusing enrollment process.
First and foremost, every student in our district deserves to have a safe learning environment, regardless of belief or sexual orientation. While I don't believe there is a one size fits all solution to the complexities within this space, I do believe that respect and compassion should be at the center of how each and every one of our students is treated in our district and the board should respond with these values in mind.
